which motherboard?

Stulid,

Am I right in thinking though that the Gigabyte is missing PCI-E 3.0?

If you're thinking of Ivybridge in the future, surely this is a contributing factor to the decision?

The gigabyte boards do, but only on the top PCIe and only with Ivy bridge cpu.. that is untill they get thier finger out and release thier Gen 3 boards.

Asus, ASrock and MSI all have gen 3 boards out right now.

Still not like it would matter to OP for the time being as the cards are only PCIe 2.0

From what I have read all of these z68 boards have faults. The Asrock uses broadcom chip for lan. Gigabyte uses realtek for lan. Asus uses intel, but on their boards the audio is a problem, plus esata uses jmicron chip with very poor performance. Can't remember msi issue right now but i'm sure it must have one!
