Interested in getting a NAS, I'd like it to be able to run SABnzbd, SickBeard, Couchpotato and hold an XBMC library if possible, probably looking at something 4 bay.

Any ideas?

That's not a bad shout, read that power draw is under 50w with 4 drives and essentially a 4 bay NAS for £130...

Is there any reason to get a dedicated NAS (as in Synology/QNap) over this? Only thing I can think of is hot swap ability.

Modded BIOS on the N40/54L and you can have hot swap, but TBH I'd just get a decent RAID card in there with the capability.

Modded BIOS also gives you SATAIII on the internal ODD SATA port too, handy for an SSD boot drive.

I've got two at the moment, one for media PC duties with a GT610 in there for video decoding. The other is an ESXi host with a Dell PERC H310, just moved the mini-SAS cable over from the internal port to the RAID card. Also shoved an Icy-Dock 4x 2.5" adapater in there for extra capacity too. 8 HDDs, 3 RAID volumes + SSD for VM boot drives. :D

So, I have an N54L turning up this week.

What's the modded BIOS for SATAIII on the ODD port?

Is my best option to put Debian on there or go with WHS?

My plan is still to put SABnzbd, SickBeard and Couchpotato on there and host an XBMC MySQL library on it.

I have a HTPC in the living room which is currently running Win8.1, I was looking to change that and put KodiBuntu on it. I then have a WDLiveTV in the bedroom which I stream my XBMC library to currently, would that still be feasible with the new plan?
