Which new Android phone?

Coming to the end of my contract and I will probably get a new phone.

Currently I have a HTC desire running Android 4.1.

Looking at recent phones on GSM arena, it seems there are a few phones that are quite similar in specs.

Galaxy Nexus
Samsung Galaxy S3
HTC One S
HTC One X
Sony Xperia Acro S

Specs don't really tell me anything though and they all run the same OS, so is there any helpful advice you guys can give me?

Mostly web browse and send texts rather than call, listen to lots of music, don't really watch videos, good battery life is a big plus.

I've seen the One X for £18.50 a month effective, with 1.5GB of data so that seems quite good.

Out of them all, the Galaxy S 3 is the best phone of the bunch generally. You should try them in a shop though of course and check you're happy with the size and feel of it. You may prefer the smaller One S for example.

The best deals are usually found here: http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S3/30,103121,All,tt1,ct1

I wrote a 'guide' with a breakdown of differences between the top three phones, here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18417660

As a general rule, the Galaxy S 3 is the phone to go for unless there's something about it that you specifically don't like.

Though, for your specific uses:

Web browsing - the big screen of the One X and Galaxy S 3 are excellent here

Texting - doesn't really matter which

Listening to music - the S3 and One S have the best audio quality, roughly equal (you can fit a lot more music on the former, though)

Battery life - again, the One S and S3 are similar enough here

billmonitor.com seems easier to use. :p

Xperia Arc S £14.52 pm
Galaxy Note £15.85 pm
HTC One S £16.88 pm
HTC One X £18.42 pm
Galaxy S3 £24.67 pm

Shame the S3 is so expensive comparatively, unfortunately I don't think I can really justify paying £150-£250 more for the S3 over the others when I could get a new lens or TV for that amount of money.

I've noticed there's also the Galaxy Note for £15.85 pm, but that seems a little large. Then again, I thought that about the 4.3" ones but after playing with my friends phone realised it's not an issue.

Where did you see the note for £15 pm ? im out of contract in 6 days and looking to get this, cheers

*edit* nvm found it :)

Had a look in Carphone Warehouse today and tbh I think the note is indeed manageable, I have to ask myself, how often in the UK's ****** weather am I not wearing a jacket, coat or hoodie et al? After seeing my friends larger 4.3"-4.8" phone I regretted not going for the large Desire HD in the first place, so I may go for the note, barring any obvious problems with it.

Contracts a few months off expiring, so I may sell my desire off to pay for the contract, and maybe sell off the contract to my parents or a trusted friend. Are dialaphone likely to offer me anything better for upgrading?

Bought the Galaxy note in the end. Huge screen is amazing and fits in my jeans so easily because of how thin it is. Don't think I could ever go back to a 3.5" screen.

It would end up costing a lot more and there doesn't really seem like much improvement, slightly bigger screen with a worse aspect ratio and lower resolution and more cpu cores.

The update to the pen would be more improtant, 4x more pressure points, more accurate better software, more S pen apps and JB at release. But yeah the Note is already a very fast phone, with a great screen. Enjoy!

Does anyone actually use the s-pen? :p

My friend who knows a note loves the S-pen, never puts it down, even uses it for general taskes. It really depends I guess, but he is some what of the artist type and does some half decent drawings too, also huge fan of draw something, but clearly that isnt fair :(.
