Hi
I'm building a new rig and a bit stumped at which graphics card to get.
The PC will mainly be used for CAD (Autodesk Alias, Showcase, Keyshot), rendering, etc. but I will use it to game since I haven'e done so in a while and there are some good games out at the moment.

This is what I have for the rest of the system:

Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 MotherboardCorsair
Dominator 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMP16GX3M2A1600C10)
OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (AGT3-25SAT3-60G)
Akasa Venom 750w Modular '80 Plus' Power Supply

The card I have at them moment is the Nvidia 7900gs and I havent had any compatability problems with it thats why I'm leaning towards another Nvidia card instead of an AMD one because I remember reading something about CUDA being better for photoshop, etc.

Price range for a new graphics card is £200-£250 maybe more at a push.
Looking at either the AMD 7800 series or the Nvidia 580 series.

Don't know if I should wait for the cheaper kepler cards, it's been a while since my last build.
Any advice would be really helpfull.

Thanks

first of all, please tell me you got the K version of your processor!!!

I would get the 7850, overclock the nuts off it and it will beat a 580

I haven't bought it yet, going to order everything together when I've decided.
Just seen that the K series is better for overclocking, I'll make sure to get that version then.
So there's no point in waiting a bit longer for the kepler cards to become cheaper?

I wish I had the extra cash for the 3GB version.
So it's either

or

Any reason to choose one over the other?
Thanks for the advice so far.

For your programs I would still go with the 1.5gb 580 over the 7850, as the 7850 has to be overclocked to match the 580 at stock.

I assume a highish end Quadro card is out of your budget?

I don't think I need a Quadro card at the moment for the amount of CAD work I do, I just wanted to get advise on which consumer card to choose to speed things up and be good for the programs I use.
Thanks for your advise, I'll get the 580 which should be a good upgrade to the ancient 7900gs I have now.

or this one at £239.99

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 OC Special Edition 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Atleast this will have a 3 year warranty with Gigabyte. The one you list is only 90 days warranty.

You want to stick with a GTX 580 for the programs you use for work. ;) Don't temp fate with AMD drivers for work stuff, one of the reasons I went Nvidia is work comes first then gaming on my rig too.
