Which O/S

Slow HD transfers, slow LAN transfers, HD shutting down all the time (even though disabling power managment/HD shut down)

Valid reasons. but only some people got those problems. and sp1 has solved the problem for almost everyone. A few people still getting it. Hopefully it'll be fixed by official release.

I've used Vista on and off for months now, but only in the last week or so have I forced myself to use it as my main OS. I tried before but kept going back. In the end I just unplugged the XP hard drive so I couldn't be tempted back!

I'm glad I did. Now I couldn't use XP again. Vista is just better. So much easier to use, faster at most things, much more stable and just generally well presented. Yes, it takes some getting used to. But once you are then it is clearly the better OS. I don't get it when people say they hate it!

I'd go to vista 64bit personally. SP1 will be out shortly (have SP1 beta running fine on my laptop) and driver support is getting better everyday.

iTunes not working on Vista 64 bit is not vista's fault, but Apples fault for not developing the software quick enough. Again, that should be fixed soon.

The only fault I have with vista is the messy networking centre, but seeing as I've only had to use it a handful of times in about 6 months it’s not a huge issue.

Well after installing Vista x64 when it first came out & being extremely disapointed, I then moved back to xp64 until a few weeks back, I took the plunge & installed Vista x86(32bit) now I am very delighted with it, the new fixes & so on have speeded up the system so much it is defently on par if not faster than xp for me.

Also to people saying it runs like a dog on 1gb memory, works fine for me but then again i don't really game much no more just simple desktop tasks & it does that fine. Very impressed & can't wait to see what SP1 brings to the table (not going to install the beta yet).

Now is the time to be looking at moving to Vista in my opinon a lot more is supported now, drivers are getting a lot more stable & some of the features are pretty cool.

Of course i still love xp to bits & it still has a place in the computer world.

I don't hate it, I just think it still needs developing a lot. How can someone express a feeling if hardware and software and problems still need sorting.

Not everyone gets problems because they using hardware, which is approved e.t.c and all the drivers / software is sorted.

It all boils down to an opinion so to the OP, up to you.

I am reading with interest that people have this LAN issue with Vista???

Normally, Im very much an XP64 user. I have however, aquired a few flavours of Vista ( Yes, all legal ) Business 32 Retail , Prem 32 Retail, and Ultimate 32+64 Upgrade.

Now, Vista has been a personal love hate for me as it has just not played well on my main rig for one reason or another? - Anyway, Premuim runs sweet on the MSI Neo2 and so my son can use that and its been on there just sweet for about 3 or 4 months now.

Anyway, a few days ago, I gave my main rig another play on 64U and its gone on fine for a change and so far, I am actualyl happy for once ,as I said, I usually have some issue or another, but the issues I have been having are not there now.

Anyway, my typical thursday afternoon consists of :-

Taking the footage off the Video Cameras. I have my own Camera, plus 3 from mates. Each Camera, I put up to its own PC, and I simply use WMM to grab the video off the camera, but I save it to my No.2 PC... So, thats 3 copies of AVI Files going over the LAN but also the 4th is saving to itself... Simple enough... The xfer takes about an hour as thats how the camera works

Now, while this is going on, I would normally be bringing somethign down to my No.1 PC and this is usually SouthPark, or Family Guy ( Yes, its all legal so dont BS me ) and I send that out to the TV while I get on with playing a game perhaps?

Now, all this is done with 2 of the PCs running VISTA... The rest are on XP64 though.

And the No.1 and No.2 PCs are both running Vista and they are both doing heavy LAN work.

Had my LAN been limited to only 2MB/s then I for sure, would have noticed this?

Sorry for such a bloody ridiculously long story just to say that, but hey, why not?
