Which of these two hard disks is the fastest?

I use an SSD for my OS and a few other things and I have a dilemma as to what to use as my secondary drive. I can use this one that I have lying around and bought a few years ago:

Samsung HD501LJ 500GB Internal SATA 16MB 7200RPM Hard Drive

Or I could use this one that I salvaged from a dead laptop:

Western Digital WD Scorpio 250GB 8MB 5400rpm, WD2500BEVT

Which of these is faster or just the better disk to use?

I would have guessed the 7400rpm disk would be faster, but the 5400rpm laptop disk always 'felt' faster so I thought there might be another factor at play that I wasn't aware of.
