Which old game back in the day had the most hype but was the biggest flop?

Been mentioned already but duke nukem forever. Waited for it for so long only for it to be so bad that I couldn't play it past the first 30 min

The game had a few moments, mostly throwback moments but yeah overall it was not good. Interestingly enough that version that leaked out a few years back looked like it had a lot of potential, it's a shame the whole game was stuck in development hell

For me it had to be test drive unlimited 2, so much potential but was the first time I experienced a total train wreck of a game. Was almost unplayable at lunch.

i don't know if this counts but after the excellent il2 sturmovik .
oleg released cliffs of dover .
i pre ordered the limited edition box set and booked a week off work for when it arrived .
a total waste almost unplayable at launch and never really got finished .
the code got released into the community years later

Rise of the Robots.. complete crap. Had about 5 mins of play value. Luckily didnt buy it as we saw it was crap from day 1.
