Hey,

currently I use 2x 24" Dell monitos in my office which I often game on the one in the evenings (1080p 75hz).

I'm thinking of upgrading to a 27" OLED/QD-OLED monitor which will be for the xbox series x mainly. My PC does have the RTX3080 10GB so the monitor MAYBE used for PC games down the line.

I may leave the 2 Dell monitors as they are for work and have the 27" OLED to the side. I think 2x 27" monitors may be too much on a desk (I did think upgrade to one OLED 27" then one just 1080p 27", replacing both 24" monitors).

The question is which 27" OLED do I go for for my budget of £400?

I have been eyeing up the "MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X24 Gaming Monitor 26.5" WQHD"

I think at that price I'd at least go 32 or 34 inch if you're spending that much

Samsung 32” Odyssey OLED G81SF 240Hz Gaming Monitor LS32FG816SUXXU

Can be found for under 500 sheets if you shop around

32" would be too big to have Infront of me on the desk.

As I do use my PC for business/productivity mainly but light gaming, I'm wondering if I'm better going with an IPS panel?

I would highly recommend the either the MAG 272QP X50 or Aorus FO27Q5P (same panel) if you are going OLED and can manage it - the Aorus has newer display port support. Very impressive HDR gaming capability and adequate text rendering for non-gaming uses.

Though if you are mainly doing business/productivity personally I'd still lean towards a decent IPS panel - these OLEDs aren't quite there yet for general purpose usage and rely on a lot of crutches with varying level of visibility to the end user i.e. periodical pixel orbiting and selective brightness masking, etc. which you can't fully turn off and wouldn't want to for longevity reasons anyway.

EDIT: One of the things these monitors do nicely, at least on the Aorus and I assume the MSI can do the same, is internal downscaling of a 4K source to 1440p - retains an impressive amount of detail from the 4K source and somehow manages to hide a lot of the inconsistencies with text and line thickness, etc. you usually get when downscaling to not exact multiples of an image - not sure if it is using the high refresh to do some kind of temporal processing of the signal.

Think I'm going to have to go IPS as in all honesty it's probably 80% business and 20% gaming.

Any thoughts on mini led?

Have seen an MSI mag 27" 1440 180hz monitor for under £140 (not mini led)

Yes it's only 180hz but I will be playing GTA VI on the Xbox series X and my PC has a Ryzen 5 3600 and the RTX3080 10GB, I'm not chasing 200+ FPS and mainly play racing/story driven games now. Can't handle competitive multiplayer anymore, haha

I added an edit in there in respect to things like console gaming, not sure if relevant to you, the monitors I mentioned do a very impressive job of downscaling a 4K source from things like game consoles and rendering at 1440p.

I'm a bit out of the loop on the latest with mini LED.
