Hi Guys,

Got a question.... My dads Ati 9800 pro 128mb card has had it and he's looking for the same spec atleast to replace it...

Anyone know what that would be nowadays?

He's a cheap man, so he's looking around £50 mark

Cheers Guys!

agp or pci-e? pcie my money is on a top of the range 7300GS (512mb, high clock speeds)

p.s. why cant i say T e h, all as one word?

OcUK did have a 6600GT for about £50 in clearance but I think all AGP cards have gone now. There's nothing on AGP around the £50 that would give similar performance to a 9800 pro.

Hi Guys,

I've found 2 cards, not sure how they are though....

256Mb Sapphire ATI X1300 DDR2 AGP TVOut DVI D-Sub Retail £58.64 Inc VAT

and

256Mb Sapphire Radeon 9600 XT x8 AGP Tv-out, DVI (Retail) £46.99 Inc VAT

Any of these any good or equal to a 9800 pro 128 mb?

Cheers Guys

I'm pretty sure this is meant to be similar to a 9800pro, but I'm also pretty sure that the 9800pro has the edge on it in terms of performance

the 9600xt is a good card - but its a "lower" model of the 9800pro, so its close but definately not as good.

I have found 2 more guys....

first link removed

no, this card is no where near a 9800pro

and

2nd link removed

Any of these ok?

Cheers

the 6600 range is a decent range, but any Nvidia card ending in LE is not a good card. I'd say this will also be a lesser card than the 9800pro.

You are in a very difficult situation, where AGP prices are artificially inflated because they are no longer mainstream. PCI-E graphics has taken over, and so people who are still on AGP have to pay over the odds for the "convenience" of staying with AGP.

You are in a doubly bad position because the 9800pro was such a great card - and to replace it with a budget agp card these days is near on impossible, unless you pay a disproportionate amount of money for what you are getting.

I'd look 2nd hand if I were you.....

Seeing as OcUK's budget AGP lineup is pretty limited, I'm sure they won't mind if I suggest you look around a bit ;)

But I think apart from 2nd hand your ONLY options would seem to be:

6600 (not LE) - can be found for around £60
6600GT - can be found for around £75

The 6600gt is a much better card, and is also better than the 9800pro by quite a bit in most games. But it is quite hard to find it any cheaper than £75.

Other than those options I think you will either end up paying even more money, or getting less performance than with the 9800pro

I will have a look at......****

to be on the safe side, you may want to look on an "auction site" ;)

and edit your earlier posts too - before one of the mods comes along and does it for you!!! It's just part of the forum rules I'm afraid.

no probs :)

hope you find one at a good price!

Just before you go - can I ask why your dad needs it to be the same as or better than the 9800pro?!

does he game at all?

if it's just for desktop use - then he'll not notice any difference between the 9600 and the 9800 tbh.....

Just a thought :)
