hi i'm just about to build my first pc and i dont know which os to use, a friend recommended windows media centre edition but i dont know how it will cope with everyday tasks like browsing, gaming and word processing it seems one sided, to just be a htpc os. where as vista ultimate can do all of them things and comes with the media centre. but due to all the vista sucks threads :p i'm a bit put off.

thanks Hassan

Definitely go Vista, especially if it's a nice new PC with dual/quad core and 2-4GB RAM (I recommend 4GB to get the most out of it) :)

Make sure you get 64-bit as well, especially if the PC has 4GB.

it's faster ram and slightly cheaper than the stuff you had specced. It will work fine with your cpu. Sounds like your friend doesn't know much at all.

I am confused at the question as Vista Home Premium has Vista MCE built into it anyway.

I think your question should have been 'which os to get vista home premium or xp mce 2005'.

Vista Home Premium is your answer aslong as the pc has 2GB of memory or more and has a decent CPU/Motherboard.

On a new PC, Vista is always my choice. Make sure it's 64-bit too.

With your processor and RAM you will be running Vista with no problems. Check out blackvipers site to shut down some services to get the most out of your processor.

Vista Home Premium is definitely the way to go. But, if you need Remote Desktop/Domain facilities, Vista Business. Ultimate is just a waste of money.

There is only one instance where I choose XP, and that is on low spec hardware, or the little netbooks.
