You should spread the paste as thinly as possible for best results.

late to the thread, but the TF7 is an extremely high quality paste, and better than the MX4/6, but regardless they're all within 1-2c, so I would not spend any more money and just use what is available to your good self

I've seen bigger differences between MX-4 and 6 with high wattage CPUs and AIOs, etc. with testing with R23 than that graph shows albeit only 2-3C at max heat soak, while they are close at lower wattage heat loads. I think they are maybe hitting saturation and margin of error on their cooler.

EDIT: There are a couple of other people's tests on Reddit with 14900s linked from that one which show similar to what I've found with TF7 and MX-4 basically the same and MX-6 marginally better under high wattage loads i.e. 300+ watt limits on those tests.
