ok so I'm bloody confused lol

I'm now certain I need a m.2 pci-e ssd but there are ones with different ends on them, some have 3 connectors (b+m I think) and the others with 2 edge connector like this one .

on the asrock site it says :

1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)**

- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)

do I need a 2 pin type or 3 pin type?

my mb is the asrock pro4 matx and I already have a 500gb m.2 sata drive in there.

ok thankyou sir,i kinda was 90% sure but after getting the wrong type yesterday thought I beter ask lol

what confused me is I already have a B+M sata type in there working away but the manual says use m type..

Your spare slot is only M type

The occupied slot is both M type + M+B type

- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2242/2260/2280 "Here it should say "AND/OR" to prevent confusion" M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s) (with Summit Ridge, Raven Ridge and Pinnacle Ridge) or Gen3 x2 (16 Gb/s) (with A-Series APU)**
- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module**

*M2_2 and SATA3_3 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the other one will be disabled.

I bolded the important bit of info that is missing from their spec that prevents confusion, I don't understand why manufacturers can't add 1 single word which would stop many being confused on compatibility
