Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
I thought about getting a turntable for a while and actually have about 10 in my small collection and today I went to the local HiFi shop in town to look around, long story short they have an open box Rega P2 for £399 and I bought it, well, I put a deposit down for it to hold it for me until next Saturday as I walked to town and couldn’t walk home with it.

I want to use my Musical Fidelity XA2 amp with some Mission Speakers that I have spare but I will need a Phono Stage. https://www.rega.co.uk/products/planar-2 It says it comes with a Carbon cartridge installed.

Now I know nothing about phono stage but I know there are 2 types of them, MM and MC. Does all Phono stage work with both?

Anyway, what’s a decent one to get that goes well with the P2 without breaking the bank?

Edit - I think the Fosi Audio X5 seems the best bang for buck at £100?

Hiya it comes with the ND3 which is a MM (Moving Magnet cartridge) so you want a phono stage that has MM or MM and MC to go with a Rega i would recommend the Rega Fono MM MK5 Phono stage which retails for about £230 or take a look a company called Graham Slee they are highly regarded and wont break the bank.

Thanks, I think I will go for the Fosi Audio X5, it’s £109 and gets great reviews, does MM and MC too with lots of db adjustments.

Do love the chifi. Got a few friends that used to spend big bucks, and also built their own amplifiers etc, but are now just using some of the Chinese kit as it’s just as good as the stuff with serious snake oil tax these days.

I’m still using a Mk2 Rega Fono. Be interested to see how it stacks up to one of these.

The Rega fono mini A2d should fit the bill as it gives both rca and usb output, giving you option to connect to pc and rip the vinyl to flac, wav, mp4 etc
I use it with a pro ject debut carbon and cambridge audio evo150 and neat iotas and it sounds grand!
