I have one of the first 42" non HD Panasonic plasma TV's and it has served me well for a good few years and still does but looking for a New TV.

My needs are HD & 42" at least if not bigger. The thing is I stream a lot of movies from my mac to TV so most of the time the movies are AVI or DIVX so i'm not used to great quality but have a PS3 which I want to use in HD for games and looking to buy some blue ray disks soon. So what are my options. My budget can go up to 600-700 ish ;)

Can't go wrong with the Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80, you'll be looking at around £700 (cheaper in places) for that one.

You can get the Full HD 1080p set if you want to spent a little more as well.

I have one of the Viera 42" plasma's and they are very good. The only issue is if you intend to use one as a monitor at times, as the res won't be good with that (but still useable).

Gaming on them is very good and I play grid on full graphics settings on only 1024*768 and frankly it looks amazing on the screen.

Combined with a Panasonic DVD upscaler (DVD/HDD recorder) it's an really good combo :) I can safely say I have had no 'burn in' issues with it. Retention does occur but goes away quickly with other images.

I know my model has been superseded since last year and they are now doing some true 720p models (1366 res).

Hi wont be using as a PC monitor but just for games for my PS3. Will take a look at the TH42PX80 ;)

I'm a proud owner of a 42-PX80. Not compared it to too many others except mainly the Sony LCD 1080p V3000-X3500 range etc.
Take the plasma I say. Especially if you will be watching plenty of SD content as it handles it wonderfully, as well as the HD of course

What are the issues people are talking about when it's connected via VGA to a PC?

I don't own one, but always recommend it due to it's fantastic user/web/mag reviews.

I'd like to get one myself in the near future, but it's primary use for me hooked up to a Media Centre and the TV would go through the PC.

If there's some major issues going on with the 42PX80 (or PZ80) please say and save me some cash :p

You can use pc via HDMI to get full HD if you go for the PZ models. VGA is really good for xbox though, thats what i use that for, keeps hdmi ports free for other stuff (pc/dvd/sky hd)

Ah right that's nice to know.

I'll only be watching SD and Freeview through the HTPC so I wouldn't be that bothered about it, 360 is component anyway.

If I need full HD through the PC I'll use DVI-HDMI :)

Thanks for that guys, saved me some pain in the ass moments anyway!

Anyone else find the PX's horizontal resolution of 1024 to be, frankly, pathetic?

IMHO, 1360-ish should be the minimum for any set which calls itself HD ready/capable.

My 42 kuro waas that and it was perfect. It's not all down to the number of pixels.
