Hi People,

this weekend im going to be giving my car a full polish twice, and then the same next week and the weekend after so then i only have to do it once in a blue moon.

Was wondering what polish you people reccomend? i was going to use AutoGym Super Resin Polish

cheers for any advice and links :)

Theres two types of polish :

Cleaner Polishes are for removing very light or fine defects while restoring a crystal clear, smooth high gloss surface.

Pure polishes are for finishes already in excellent condition and are for the purpose or creating brilliant high gloss with deep dark reflections.

If you are going to polish you need to wax as well to protect that polish.

I recently spent maybe 5-6 hours on my car... it got dirty a week later and then i just spent 30 minutes washing drying it... wow it looks just like it did after those 5 hours :)

Hang on a moment. You own a BRAND new astra don't you?

You definately don't need to polish NEW paint. Wax yes, polish = no!

I always swear by Super Resin Polish, however ive never been introuduced to Meguiars so i'll have to give it a whirl !!!

I agree with that.

For as long as you can get away with just keep building up the wax.

Polish is an abrasive. If you car has been "protected" in any way with a paint protectant, you will be rubbing that off. If your car has been waxed, you will rub that off, and if your too harsh, you will start to take layers of paint (that are brand new and hence unblemished) off.

autoglym all the way I think. easy on, easy off, maybe use the gold stuff (cant remember the name) to finish it off. the shine drops a touch, but helps protect the red one (resin polish) for much longer.

polished most weekends, and I found that I would just polish dirt off of the car without having to do a full wash. go through a lot of cloths, but saves time and money. probably amounted to 1-2quid a week.
used to do it mid week as well if I had 20mins spare. get home from work. polish on, go in for a coffee, come out and buff off. car always looked mint.

Wrong. New paint jobs are far from perfect and a good detail on a new car goes a long way.

Thing about contaminants during transit plus washes by the dealer.

I know the two cars i've owned have had swirl marks from new... and thats like with 5 miles on the clock.

The polish you're using at the moment is fine providing you just want to keep the car shiney and it has no major scratches or marks on it. :)

Ok, this weekend I'm getting my car back from being repaired. It will have been half resprayed, if not full I don't know.

If the car has only been blended, will it be worth me polishing the lot? I also want to get a good finish and then wax etc.

Super Resin is a polish with mild abrasives.

I did a whole Corsa B with this that was close to satin white with no end of tar spots. It looks immaculate after a proper going over with a large squab of saturated cloth that made the polish looked like it was emulisfying on the surface (spot on IMO for it to clean properly). In no way i would consider it a wax.

Infact i was considered getting some NXT wax to go over the Corsa after to protect and seal the now clean paint. Did you even look at the colour of the cloth once you had polished it? Mind you i suppose it was mainly clogged with the NXT you just removed.

Nope i use diff cloths and applicator pads for everything.

Not a polish, not abraisive like a polish its a sealer really to give a hard clear top coat ;)

Never noticed anymore dirty coming off on the cloth when putting this over the top of my NXT.

That's a different product to Super Resin Polish, that's a sealant - which is what NXT is anyway. :P
