Little confused and would be grateful if someone could shed light.

Just taken delivery of a system built by OCers and the SSD and hard drive are connected to the Marvell ports, I have read on the forums that these are not really preferred or even perhaps slower.

Is the Intel Sata controller the same as the JMB? It's the only other controller that I can see in the BIOS, i've disabled it to get the system to boot a little quicker and the only thing attached to is the DVD drive.

System is:

OCZ ZX Series 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI Sound Card with built in Headphone Amp -
OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s
OcUK GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics
OcUK GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155
Cooler Master HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black (RC-942)
Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor

The Intel controller is an Intel controller and the JMB is the JMB. They are not the same.

Plug the DVD drive and the SSD into the Intel Z68 SATA 6gb/s connectors. These are the gray connectors on the motherboard and should be labelled, SATA6G_1 and SATA6G_2.

Number 9 in the motherboard manual :)

Set these to AHCI mode in the BIOS too.

I'd move the SSD to one of the Intel ports. It willl be much faster then.

I know with some Z68 that the e-SATA is shared with the Marvell M2 port so that could explain the performance, although I'm surprised that the PC came with the SSD in the Marvell posts considering the Intel controller is much faster.

JMB is the drivers for the e-SATA.

Guys really appreciate the advice, just moved my SSD and primary hard drive to SATA6G_1 and SATA6G_2.

Not sure on performance increases yet, tbh it's pretty fast anyway, but it was really annoying to have to keep waiting for the JMB and Marvell controllers to search for drives at boot.

All sorted, thanks again I hope you both have a great weekend!
