Which power supply for ATI xt1900xt-x

The Asgard said:
Probably used about 300 supplies by now and like I said we have had 1 DAO failure.
That makes me feel very unlucky. :( They didn't fail right away, one lasted 18 months 24/7.

so ati tool says your x1900xt-x is drawing 350watts? interesting........
I've seen the latest version report over 35A current draw on load, dropping to 8A on idle. Me thinks something's not quite right.

well that's a hell of a lot of current to draw, but looking at what the review sights have been reporting it may not be that far off. They are reporting a draw of around 300-310w at load on a stock x1900 using proper measuring equipiment.

To be honest, that is diabolical. They have got to start doing something about current draw.

Even more interesting is that am running this card at 690/800 on my 350watt shuttle power supply..No problems yet..Then again it had no problems running my two 7800gtx in sli clocked at 485/1300.

But i want change up to a normal size system now..(if that what you call them)

Hi,

I am running 1900xtx and 1900xt in crossfire, using a seasonic s12 600w power supply, I have no problems whatsoever, and the power supply is very quiet.

I have 2 hard drives in raid 0, and an amd 4800 overclocked to 2.59ghz. So there must be plenty of headroom.

Just installed the 6.2 drivers, and I'm getting steady 50-65 frames per second at 1280*1024 with all details maxxed out on n4smw.

Thanks
Raja

My Thermaltake PurePower TWV 500W ATX2.0 Modular PSU is
- Separate +12V rails 2 of them -provide sufficient 36A for PC system
i seen revews on it...nice psu..with a totle watts viewer ...
Supports SLI and Cross-Fire technology

my x1900xt on load been upto 260watts on 3dmark06.

It definately pulls substantially more than a GTX 512. My Reserator does get a lot hotter and hotter quicker. I also suspect that the heat is a major factor in stopping these clocking through the roof.

The rail currents are the maximum load per rail without loads on other rails (from the same rectifier). 36A at 12v is 432w, all from a 500w supply? If you add all the separate currents together you'll get something like 800w. What you should look at is the combined crossload rating. Dual rails can be confusing, output is capped as they are fed by the same rectifier so the rails are NOT additive.

Is these numbers on my shuttle psu good or bad???

Its ironic most signatures in this thread omit the PSU, its one of the first things to look at when troubleshooting hardware problems.

Shuttle PSU powering 2 7800gtx sli? 350w. Not sure what to make of the specs since it lists 3 different current outputs for 12v, a & b would make sence and be 34 amp. However the other 12v line doesnt make much sence especially since its a 350w shuttle psu!

The shuttle PSU's are proprietary items and that info doesn't tell you much, but they're well known to be underrated from a power perspective. Its designed to run an SLI system so it should be ok, as I said you can't just combine rails as 34A@12v is 408w. The best way to tell if a PSU is over taxed is watch the voltages on a multimeter.

So what PSU will DEFINITLEY work with the Radeon X1900XTX? - don't want trial and error:) tagan, Enermax, Antec etc, all seem good makes, but will (say) 500 watts or so be enough to provide the 30 amps (on 12v rail)? - and I still can't figure out this dual 12v thingy:(

Will an Antec NeoHE 500W Modular ATX2.0 PSU (CA-045-AN) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Antec_103.html Be ok for X1900XTX? - and what about Crossfire...

TIA

Hi,

The seasonic s12 600 is really good, it runs my rig no problem, I have 2 1900's in crossfire, 2 hd's in sata raid 0, amd 4800 all running and this thing barley breaks a sweat. The seasonic can provide 600w continuous, with some psu's the stated wattage may be peak.

Thanks

I seen a bad review on the Tagan 580watt..

And good reviews on these two ones below

Enermax Liberty 620Watt
Seasonic S12 600W

Just my 2p:

If you want the BEST PSU, get a PCP&C 510.

If you can't quite afford the best (rasies hand) , get an OCZ Powerstream 520 or 600.

A PSU is boring, yes, but not something to be scrimped on.

Hi,

Yes they are crossfire compatible, as I said above I am using an s12 600 to power my 2 1900's in crossfire, and the supply seems to do this effortlessly, and also very quietly..........

Thanks
