Looking to get my first OCUK pc, wanting it for work, internet and playing games like Civ 5, half life 2, starcraft 2, FF14, FF11 etc. The two that I have been interested in are the Ultima Black OPS (with SSD and a blu ray player) or the Titan Aurora (with SSD and upgraded to the i5)

Any thoughts on the above 2 and which would be better for what I am after?

Also what wireless card would you recommend I get? Are wireless cards just as good/better than the wireless USB adapters?

Black OPS!!!!!!!! its the name that makes it.

But The Titan Aurora will be faster as a i5 760 is quicker than a i7, and it has a faster GPU

Blackops is better all around.

Much better CPU.
Much better case.
Much better RAM.
Much better Motherboard with the option to SLI which the Aurora doesn't offer.
Much better cpu cooler.
The GPU once overclocked is probably the same or better then the 6870.

It's also £160 more expensive.

The i5 will do everything you want without breaking a sweat, it's your choice if you want to pay a premium for something that will probably last you longer.

i5 760 is faster then the i7 950?

at stock speeds yes, faster turbo boost you see, and the i5 vs i7 debate has been done to death on these forums - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18200131

as they are both at 4ghz I still think the i5 is better for his needs.

The OP states he wants a gaming system with some internet and work use, which the i5 will be better at, if he had stated heavy encoding/rendering then a i7 is better, but the black OPS is a huge wedge of money more.

well basically if money was not an issue with either which one should I go for? Also which would be the most silent system of the two? I know both will do the job, but in the long run which would be better?

Buy the Aurora and keep the money £££ in your pocket for upgrades later on.

Did you not read my post?

The Black Ops is better in almost every single component so it's more future proof. The only reason Stulid is trying to persuade you into the Aurora is because you will never use the full capacity of an i7, while that is true now, you never know in 1 or 2 years time. You also get a copy of CoD Black Ops which should save you like 40 or 50 quid.

In terms of sound i've got the black ops and after i fixed a loose fan which made it sound like a freight train at firs, its pretty much silent .

for what the OP wants the i5 is the better choice, also claiming more future proof? have you not heard of sandy bridge and all its new sockets? so both current sockets are doomed.

The new sandybridge chips are going to replace the i3/i5 chips we have now but they are not going to outperform the i7 (just yet anyway, meaning you'd be waiting until September next year to get something better)

sandy bridge is the term for a whole architecture of chips, not just the yet to be released socket 1155 setups, there is a socket 2011 (better than current i7) systems coming too.

oh. fast edit skills you have there.

I know but it's not coming in Jan or Feb, it most likely be in the end of the next year. The CPUs coming early are the i3/i5 replacements.

Lol, tbh, I get what you're trying to say, OP isn't going to see a difference either way.

It's up to you, if money is not a problem then get the i7 otherwise get the i5. Alternatively, you could always Crossfire the 6870s for the price of the i7 rig.

so he may aswell buy the Aurora, save the huge £££ and upgrade with the left over £££ and have a faster system again.

You're assuming he is willing to change MB+CPU+ possibly RAM by himself which is a brave assumption considering he's buying a pre-built system :p

Either options are fine, tbh, if it was my money I'd buy the Aurora + big monitor but OP is saying money is not a issue so why not go for the best :D

Yes I read your post and I agree with you, will order the Black ops today and then ring up overclockers as I will go collect both the rig and the dell u2410 that I have on order rather than paying twice for Saturday delivery and also this should minimize any risk of damage on route :-)

Thank you everyone for your help and advice.

so why not go for the best :D

because the best will get its smile taken of its face when the new tech comes next year, and if sandy bridge is as much as an improvement over the i5, as i5 is over i7 at gaming then it wont be too long. :D

No problem and yeah, when buying pre-built builds is a good idea to pick them up as there have been reports of courier drivers knocking them about like footballs :D
