which prime lens?

How do you manage to get the ball and the grass in the foreground in focus at the same time? It looks like there is a horizontal line at the grass level that is in focus with the ball remaining in focus too (however it appears slightly soft at the edges)

I'm taking a similar shot but with my cat in the garden and either the blades of grass are in focus or the cat's face is.

I'm using:
focus mode - af-s
af area mode - single point
Metering - matrix

Or is there something else I must do?

Thanks

Make sure you have the correct Aperture selected i would say?

It's a lovely crop lens but there's no need to just straight up lie...

Sub optimal due to not being able to show test charts on APS-C Nikon cameras but you can still see the difference (ignore the corners as obviously the Dx lens isn't meant to be covering that)

DXOMark doesn't show MTF figures instead they make up their own forumla.

Look at Photozone.de you can view the MTF for both lenses on the same camera.

Either way, both are fantastics lenses. I'm considering the Sigma for my K5

The camera was basically on the floor and focus was set in liveview. I was about 30cm away from the ball. In hindsight I could have done with slightly less shallow DOF, but the picture was only taken for fun so I'm not fussed.

The corners i.e bottom left and bottom right aren't sharp as there were blades of grass there just a few centimeters from the lens, so obviously not in focus.

I used matrix metering, and single point focus mode.

Low to the ground, open the lens right up, focus on the front of the ball or just slightly back a bit

The edges of the ball are out of focus because the dof is so thin
