which processor upto £180

CPU doesn't really make a difference in most games - what games are you going to be playing on it?

That aside, generally an ivy is better speed wise, even if it can't overclock as far as a sandy MHz wise, so I'd go for a 3570K.

EDIT: Ah, and yeah, the BIOS needs to be updated for an Ivybridge processor as stulid pointed out below

They both work.

The 3570K needs BIOS version 3207 or later according to the link.

If the 3570K is only a bit more than the 2500K but has a better memory controller and HD4000 IGP, it also has a slightly higher core speed.

BF3 SP or MP? The MP gets quite a benefit from a boost of CPU, so definitely the Ivybridge. If you're playing SP, it doesn't matter too much.

The only reason I asked was to make sure you saved as much as you could, because budget is important normally.

EDIT: Ah, seems Guild Wars 2 (If that's what you're playing) is quite intensive on the CPU as well, so you'd benefit from the extra clock, and the fact that ivy is generally faster.

3570K all the way.

Update your BIOS and go for the 3570K. I hope it serves you well, I've heard that it's a good overclocker and (The benefits I've talked about earlier) that it's generally faster and got a higher stock speed than the 2500K.
