Surely people have general recommendations.

Or do protein shakes vary THAT much? Regarding Protein values etc.

completely depends.
OP could be lactose intolerant or not, could prefer unflavoured and unsweetened or want flavoured stuff.
might not be happy paying loads of money or might only want to buy from H&B / GMC.

Is protein shakes really needed? probably not (other than maybe a post workout one).

True :)

I was going to ask that actually...about post workout foods.

What do people generally eat evening sort of time? Say after a dinner, if they decided to do a workout in the evening that is.

Or is this the kind of time a protein shake would be handy...

depends really. some people believe that you should never miss that big meal about an hour after your workout, regardless of what time you train.
others feel a shake and then something fast release carb based is more than fine (before pre bed meal or whatever).

completely depends on how the rest of your day has been really.

Riteo, that's fair enough.

Only asking because once I land a job again, I won't be able to do any workouts during the day naturally...So I would have to do thing's in the evening, unless I wake up ridiculously early.

It's all in the early stages anyway, as I'm only just starting out on the whole weights thing :)

Cheers though.

Personally I'd address your diet first before even considering adding protein to it that you don't necessarily need. It's not a magic supplement at all. Diet is, end of.

What type of gym do you train at, if it's a small bodybuilding gym then they usually sell supplements cheaper than in the shops, just ask the owner what he's got in.

i dont see any cheap stuff in the independants that i have used.
online bulk suppliers is the cheapest, even better if you have a discount colde.

I'll stick with food for now, see how thing's pan out.

It's just getting the food in the house that's the problem.

I agree at the moment it's tough with prices being as they are... however, shakes are only a supplement, not a replacement, and should never be conceived as an alternative, but as a plan b really. Don't get me wrong I use shakes, but I (no offence intended) probably train harder than most people in the BB threads here, bar a few notables, and have some justifiable excuse for supplementing my diet, however I spend more time and money on buying good fresh food a week than I have on protein powder in a year!

why it a problem? :p

.. Also you've just opened a can of worms which have exploded everywhere! Do you realise if you're a committed person you're whole life will begin changing from today? :p

Indeed, I doubt I'll ever get to your sort of size anyway! :p So there's no harm in that.

Just got to find myself some good (Cheap ;)) resources through natural foods, I'll need my own separate fridge at this rate!

Starting off light anyway, work my way up so to speak.

Because it costs money, that's why :p That and I'll have to start having my own food compartments downstairs separate from everyone else!

And yes...I do realise that :(

Probably for the better anyway.
