I need a new PSU (well in theory i do not but figured it would be better to get a branded PSU now before building up my new rig)
Paid my CC bill and will be ordering it Monday once my payment has cleared.

After getting some advice on this very forum 2 PSU`s were suggested..

Corsair 500W
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-034-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084

OCZ 500W
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-045-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098

They both retail @ £47.99 and after checking the ful specs i am leaning towards the OCZ
It has dual rails and EPSV12 which will better for future upgrades imo

Bear in mind i will NEVER be running SLI or Xfire and i do not game (i have a GT240 which requires no extra power (all power comes from the PCIXpress slot) and only 2 internal HDD`s (and obviously a DVD drive) might add another 1TB soon though, all that pr0n soon builds up :p

So which PSU would you choose from those 2 based on the info i have given regarding my rig?
GigaByte am3 760g
Atholon X3 445
2 X 2GB XMS3 1600mhz
2 SATA internals
GT240
HVR1100 (pci tv card)
DVD drive
1TB external WD usb drive

I will be putting another 4GB of XMS3, a Phenom X6 & another 1TB Internal at a later date so want the PSU to be able to handle the strain.

This will be my last n00b question, i promise!

TIA for any replies :)

Bequiet - 80+ bronze rated, 2 x 18 (36) amps on the 12V rail, 2 Year warranty.

Corsair - Not 80+ rated, 34 amps on the 12V rail, 2 Year warranty.

OCZ - 80+ rated 2 x 18 (36) amps on the 12V rail, 3 Year warranty.

80+ = it goes 80+ then bronze, silver & gold in the order of how energy efficient they are, might be important to you.

12V rail is important to know if you upgrade your graphics card at some point as regards system specs.

Warranty - up to you. ;)

I'd go for the bequiet myself

+1 for the corsair

I have a 600W OCZ stealth extreme V1 lets say it was a little week at handling OC'ing so it relegated to my media centre.

So i would not recommend an OCZ on that basis

Both are good psu's..... Solid performers. Go with which ever you feel comfortable with.

Thanks.a few replies to read first :p

Throwing a curve ball, I will look into it,specs are light on the shop site.

+1 or the Corsair

:D

I should add i do a fair bit of HVR capturing and a lot of encoding to XviD (from SDTV Transport Streams) (i am a capper on thebox.bz)

The bequiet is subpar. The Corsair is bad. The SxSII is the better budget unit.

Also you can't just add up the two 12v rails and assume thats the combined capacity. Does not work like that.

bequiet has two 6+2 pin pci-e connectors.

The crap ocz has a single 6pin pci-e

Cheers, but in my OP i said i was never going to run an SLI or Xfire set up )

+1 for the Bequiet bought one a couple of days ago very good loads of connections and its very very quiet

thanks

Bequiet from me. Or the Corsair.

Cheers

The overall consensus seems to be the bequiet, will do a bit a tad more research over the weekend and make a decision for Monday.
Either way they all come in around £47 so thats cool.

Thank you everyone who took the time to reply and offer an opinion

but what if you bought some strange graphics card that needed a 8pin connector? would have to use a molex to pci-e adaptor with the ocz.

what if your motherboard had a 8pin ATX connector? the ocz only has a 4pin.

what if you have more than 3 devices that need sata connectors? the ocz only has three.

Its the subpar unit.

nonsense, care to provide a reason why the bequiet is "subpar"?

Their budget units use low end FSP builds which are usually again, sub-par to average. The OCZ is the better performer. Now as you say the OCZ is *crap*. care to provide some proof? This review >>HERE<< says otherwise. Again, you don't have a clue. :)

Stealthxstream 2 =/= Stealthxstream 1.

On a side note, people need to get off the bandwagon and stop recommending the new CX series by Corsair, they're sad excuses for PSU's.

your talking crap,

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/OCZ-StealthXStream-2-600-W-Power-Supply-Review/1058

Like the original StealthXStream 600 W, the new StealthXStream 2 600 W is manufactured by FSP.

you FAIL big time!!!:D want to try again?

and before you say thats the 600w model, I can guarantee they are both from the same source.

Yeah, they're both made by FSP, did I deny that? FSP have many, MANY different designs. FSP have good, bad, and average units.... if you don't know that then thats just further proof that you don't really understand what you're talking about. :)

What, are you going to tell me I'm a "noob" now? Haha, get back in the basement you silly internet troll.
