Which PSU

My Hiper just exploded. I think. It still works but.. it powers the machine on and off randomly. And smells funny.

I want a PSU thats actually good but doesn't cost a huge pile of cash.

What do you guys recommend?

Running a Core2Duo, 8800GTS, 2xSATA drives, etc etc.

I'd recommend the Akasa 460\500W models if you want a cheaper option than the Corsair that is still good.

Warranty on the Hiper is pointless. Have to send in the original proof of purchase. Yes, becuase 2 years later I've still got the receipt. Honestly, the fact I've got it is surely proof I purchased it. It's only a PSU. I'm not likey to have nicked it and it's not been on the market long enough to be outside the 3 year warranty.

Tip: keep a lever-arch file and keep each and every tech receipt you ever get... you will need one of them at some point.

I was looking at the Hiper 580w Modulars but after reading several threads including this one I may have to get the card out and get a Corsair instead.

520w Corsair, it seems to have gone down in price as well now, im sure it was £70+, £65 is an absolute bargain for that now.

corsair hx 620, i see your another unfortunate victim of the hyper timebombs/psu my nepew had 2 go off in the last 6 months, he was lucky never ruined any other parts
