Which pump?

I've started installing my 120.2 rad into the top of my lian li. Using 28mm LA1 fans on 7v and also a shroud, makes the rad setup rather large.

Not much room after an optical drive, so need a pump thats good but with a low profile height.

Must also be quiet. Any ideas?

are those ehiem 1250 pumps not anygood? been looking at the alphacool AP1510 12V myself, there apparently quiet 21-35dBA, and according to the specifications 1500LPH flow rate and 6m delivery height!

I would agree. Although the prices have gone up! :( The DDC is better according to Marci but I'm not convinced. Plus I haven't heard of DD D4 / D5 / MCP350 failing yet.

Yeah that's the one I plan on getting...6m height :)

The 1250 is a very good pump if you want maximum proven reliability. They can be made very quiet just by giving them some decent padding. I have two sitting on the shelf simply because I got a kit with a MCP350. One of these days I'm going to hook them up in series to see what a pair of them would do!

More head than needed and extra heat?

Seen the 350 with plexitops fitted, whats the benefit of doing this?

Increases flow rate ;)

Here's the two that i've been using, fantastic pumps,so easy to work with, pretty much silent as well

MCP350 with Radiical top

DDC-1 with Petras top ,using this just now

What kind of flow rates do those get?

Can't remember for the Radiical, but here's the Petras Tech:

Max. Head Pressure (at 12V): 8.1 psig (18.68 feet - 5.7m)
Max. Discharge (at 12V): 3.5 GPM (210 GPH - 13.25 LPM/795 LPH)
Max. Head Pressure (at 13.8V): 10.1 psig (23.3 feet - 7.1m)
Max. Discharge (at 13.8V): 3.99 GPM (239.4 GPH - 15.1 LPM/906 LPH)

i was thinking, could you make a 'sound' box to put the AP1510 inside, coating the inside with sound absorbant foam, and using rubber feet to secure the pump to the case

I have an Aquaextreme 50z which is a superb pump. Excellent head height and a very low heat dump. It is in a home made wooden box along with the AT power supply for the watercooling loop. The box is sound insulated with foam and the pump is mounted with rubber noise/vibration reducing feet. The box also sits on my desk with soft rubber feet and there is no noise from it at all.

very nice, same idea i was thinking of trying, are those aquaxtreme pumps good, i was looking at 50Z 12V pump, apparently more powerful than hydor and eheim pumps, used a hydor pump as fuel pump in a home made robot (was intended for robot wars  ) engine :)

Hi Gashman, yes, the 50z is a very good pump. I would go as far as to say one of the best. It has a headheight of 10.5 feet and only has a heat dump of around 8W. My blocks are fairly restrictive, Aquaextreme MP-05 Pro LE and 2x MP-1's so the superb head height helps a lot there. It only has a 700lph throughput but i think the headheight is more important (maybe someone can confirm this). If you have a pump with a throughput of 1500LPH with only a 1M headheight it's not as good as a pump such as the 50z when using restrictive and multiple blocks. Something like that anyway. No doubt someone will put me right.

The idea with the box is that i did'nt really want the pump in the pc, neither did i want to power it off the main psu. I bought a brand new 200w AT supply off ebay for only £2.50 and decided to mount it and the pump in a box. This made bleeding and the 24hr leak test really easy. It also allows me to leave the loop running for a few minutes to carry on taking heat away from the cpu and gpu's after the pc is shut down. Originally the box was due to house the radiator as well although i changed my mind and mounted the rad on a windowsill in it's own air filtered box. I also was told that the 50z makes a humming sound. It does too. This is why i soundproofed the box. The front of the box has my XSPC passive reservoir mounted on it too. It all works a treat and my temps have really dropped since the change from air cooling. At the moment it's snowing outside and bloody freezing up here and with me just being on the internet the cpu is registering 18 degrees C and the GPU's somewhere below 31 degrees. Can't tell how low as Nvidias CP will not register below that.

they cancelled it :( we came up with a winner as well, in theory :D im still after polarflo TT CPU, NB blocks, i have two TT GPU blocks, i heard there bloody good performers as well, B-Grade (deleted line) for half the price of a swiftech MC60 with more or less identical performance :) shall see just how good they are when i get the things finally setup and stuff, need the otherparts though and i had mind set on TT blocks but nowhere in the UK seems to stock them  instead its just bloody swiftech everywhere
