I have an Ibanez RG421 (its basically the better version of the 321, its got Ibanez V7 / V8 pickups and shinier hardware - i bought it from the states like 5 years ago)

Now, I'm wondering how much cop the V7/V8 pickups generally are, I used to have EMG 81/85s then swapped for a SD Distortion / SD Jazz Neck set in my Ibanez destroyer.

just to reiterate - these are NOT powersound pickups!

Im not really interested in active pickups, but I mostly play rock and metal music, with the occasional detune to C. I use .10 - .52 strings.

I'm happy with my neck pickup, so what bridge humbucker would people recommend? (obv no DiMarzio evos!) and i'm handy with a soldering iron :)

why no dimarzio Evos?

try the X2N

ive recently bought a Paf Joe but havent got round to fitting it yet.

if you want dimarzio's i know a VERY cheap place online, andelusion can vouch for it too :p

I've just got a Breed neck and D-Sonic bridge (both DiMarzio) for my RGA121.

The Breed is AWESOME. I love it, although it's probably not a metal pickup, best way to describe the Breed is it's uber creamy and thick, perfect for classic-rock type stuff and sustainy thick solos. (think santana).

Anyway the D-Sonic on the other hand is also awesome (I'm really happy with this pup combo btw lol..) it's very very chugga-chugga, sounds awesome with some scooped mids and palm muting. I'd really suggest you check this one out.

Also the DiMarzio Tone Zone is a good bridge pickup, people have actually had fantastic results with it in the neck position although I haven't used it myself.

On the subject of DiMarzio Evolutions (those are the pups in the Jem7vWH I have), they're very in your face and fantastic for pinched harmonics, although I don't think they're good pickups for rhythm playing.

Have a look at the 'perfect pickup' selector thingum on the DiMarzio.com website, that's what I used to choose my pickups and the suggestions have tbh been perfect.

EDIT: And YES on the cheapness!! As posted in another thread, I managed to get the pups i've posted about for £69 (they're both new), the D-Sonic alone if bought from the UK new would have been £79.99.

What about an SD SH-13 Dimebucker..? I'm considering swapping out the bridge pup on my RR5 (currently a bog-standard SD TB-4) for one of these, they are v.high output and almost as near as you can get to an active sound with a passive pup :)

application

Ultra high output blade humbucker built for aggressive playing styles. Recommended for rock, metal, hard-hitting solos and other heavy rock styles.

description

The Dimebucker uses a powerful ceramic magnet coupled with stainless steel blades for hard-hitting crunch. The SH-13 has both high d.c. resistance and a high resonant peak. The result is a high-output, aggressive humbucker with more treble bite and clarity than an SH-8 Invader; as well as punchy bass response and exceptional dynamics. The blades make the Dimebucker great for balanced bends. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable and its own form-fitting mounting ring.

complete setup

Recommended for bridge position. Dimebag used a ‘59 Model in the neck for P.A.F. tones.
guitars For all instruments. The double blades make this pickup suitable for both humbucker and Trembucker string spacings.

available mods

Comes in any color you want. As long as it’s black.

players

Dimebag Darrell / Damageplan & Pantera, Mark Morton / Lamb of God
