Which quad core?

Don't say that! I've got the money for an upgrade to I7 I just didn't want to at the mo. I'd need a new board and new memory. A quad core would be a good upgrade in my opinion.
 
I'd get neither right now. The only true choice for value is the Q6600 and I'd only get one of those if it's a good second hand price like I did.
£275 for a Q9550 is a ripoff imo. It is in no way worth £155-165 more than a MM Q6600, especially when a few months back they only cost £200 in most places!

Ride out the storm and wait for the quads to come down in price. When AMD release the new Phenom II chips in a week or two you can expect Intel to respond with some decent price cuts.
