Which Quad CPU to get??

Mine isnt to bad upto 3.6ghz, needs 1.4 in bios, required a jump to 1.50625 bios, 1.496 idle and 1.512 at load for 3.8ghz, i was thinking of pushing it a bit higher, but id likely need a few delta fans on my TRUE to keep the temps within limit's.

Might be better to buy the Q6600 or a fast dual and put the cash you save towards a good graphics card. Depends what you want the Quad for and what the rest of your system is. Personally I do not like to spend more than £200 on CPUs the benefit never seems worth it. Just over clock the cheaper ones.

Are you set on a quad? The E8500 is only £6 more than the Q6600 at the moment. That's 45nm. Less cache though, but the E8*** series seems to overclock very well.

Im confused about all this 45nm and 65nm talk lol , would a Q9550 work in a gigabyte 965p DS3P motherboard ? im currently running an old e6600 but planing a upgrade in the coming weeks, would it work in this mobo or would i have to upgrade that aswell ?

Might need a BIOS update. I'm on the F8 BIOS but I'd need to use the beta BIOS F9f for a Q9650, last time I checked. Oh dear, the gigabyte site is painfully slow here, I don't have the patience for it.

My Q6600 fails to overclock past 2.8Ghz with decent air cooling :( and considering the inconsistencies with the Q6600 mentioned above you would probably be safer with a Q9550.

Hi - here is the CPU support for the 965p-DS3 - there is unoffical support for the Q9550 with BIOS F14b (which is beta).

I have one of those boards - starting to look a little long in the tooth for the next upgrade.

go 45nm, although it's a bargain avoid the Q6600 and go for a 45nm chip even if its at a lower clock.
Q6600 run sooo hot especially when OC'ed
Mine is pushing 65C with all cores on load and its only running at 3.25GHz with my zalman 9500 cooler!
