The answer is there really - what is the FSB limit on your board - do the sums and work out what that will give you on the 9300 - add the 7% - factor in the reduced cooling - and voila :D

Am going wait a week or two and see if the new Quad prices drop when they come in stock....
As i would really like to go for one with 12mb cache and a higher muilti then the Q9300 has...

Go for the wolfdale, the only reason for quads is video coding and its not like the differnce in speed matters as you arent likely to sit at your pc waiting anyway.

what about some sembleance of future proofing???

personally i prefer the idea of having more cores... than having fewer cores doing less things faster...

also, software is going to be more multi-threaded in not too long, so where will the OP be when the PC needs to have 4 cores for some software he needs to run??? though admittedly that last point is moot if the PC will be upgraded before 2 years pass

If you don't mind waiting a while get one of the new 45nm quads.
Need something straight away then get the q6600.

Wolfdales are great if you want a fast PC for Gaming but for an all rounder quads are a wiser choice.

The 9300 has a very low multiplyer and if you fancy doing a bit of overclocking they are a bad choice.
Spend a bit more and go for the q9450.
