Which RAID config?

I have 2 x 36 Gb Raptors (well, I have to take them out of another PC first) that I can add to the PC (spec is in my signature), now I'm wonder if anyone has used Asus's EZ-Backup RAID controller on this or a similar board?

I was thinking that I could set up a RAID0 (2 x Raptors) on the EZ-RAID controller with the OS/Programs on it and use the ICH7R Southbridge RAID for the 3 x Seagates for Data/files.

I just would like some more information (manual is abit cryptic) before I attempt anything. No point starting this if its a waste of time and effort.

Probably better using the ICH7R for the RAID0.

It should be pretty easy to set up a mirrored RAID0 using the Intel RAID BIOS. Probably best sticking to a 32kb stripe for an OS drive too.

You want the Raid on the SATA300 Controler thats on the PCI-E Bus so ideally the Chipset one.

Some 3rd party Controlers are on the older PCI Bus, so 133MB/Sec shared with all other devices on that Bus.

36g raptors are pretty pants anyhoo. But if you want the most then get a raid card and dont use the onboard card. makes a huuuge difference.

You can get similar performance of 2 36gig raptors with 1 HDD nowadays. Sort of makes the whole raid 0 thing a waste of time with those drives.

if your buying a RAID card.. surely they might as well buy some new drives anyway?

If its the 36GB 16MB Raptors they are fast, I think he means the older 8MB ones.
