Which ram for RYZEN will be better? Or what should i get?

I've got the Avexir, it runs the rated 2400Mhz at 16-15-15-35 @ 1.20V on the Taichi. Won't go any higher though at the moment, hoping the May BIOS update let's it OC.

If you want 3200MHz now, then you need a Samsung B die single sided 16GB kit.

I wouldn't buy anything below 3000 MHz for Ryzen. Your £150 budget allows for a variety of better 16GB options than 2400 MHz, even 3200 MHz kits that are getting more stable as BIOSes mature. Check out these for example:

GeIL EVO X
G.Skill TridentZ
G.Skill Flare X (for Ryzen)
Corsair Vengeance LPX

Also consider paying extra £30 and getting R5 1600. You'll get 50% more threads for 16% price increase, a no brainer in my opinion.

I may go with that

It's a bit of a mess, but I'll try. Single sided means that memory module has all chips only on one side. More often you will come acros "single rank" term (all single rank modules are also single sided). Single rank allows for higher frequencies on Ryzen systems when compared to "dual rank". If you are buying 8GB modules, you are alright as 8GB are single rank. If you are buying 16GB modules however, at the moment they are all dual rank. Also, it is recommended to rather buy 2x 8GB than 4x 4GB as more modules put more load on memory controller and again, less modules = higher frequencies. To sum it up, you don't need to worry about single rank and single sided if you are buying two 8GB modules. Just make sure your kit uses a Samsung B chips and to achieve that this link can help you: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/62vp2g/clearing_up_any_samsung_bdie_confusion_eg_on/

Thanks for that, I didn't know that it mattered...

No problem. I think it matters now but as BIOSes improve it will become irrelevant. To some extent it is almost irrelevant already as there was some German test* where they found out that in games dual rank DDR4 2400 MHz was a bit faster than single rank DDR4 2666 MHz. I am planning to build my Ryzen rig in near future too, just waiting for more optimisations on the platform.

That's an intresting test, not seen anyone check if there was a difference in performance between single and dual ranked memory anywhere else. Don't feel quite as bad about having 2400MHz DR if that's true :D

G.SKILL F4-3000C16D-16GTZR 16 GB (8 GB x 2) Trident Z RGB Series DDR4 3000 MHz = £154
G.SKILL F4-3000C15D-16GTZR 16 GB (8 GB x 2) Trident Z RGB Series DDR4 3000 MHz = £159

That isn't true at all. Most 8GB sticks are dual rank. They can be single rank, whereas 16GB sticks can't, but it's be no means guaranteed. I have a 16GB CL16 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX kit which is two dual rank 8GB sticks, and Ryzen was having none of them. Couldn't boot above 2666MHz on the Taichi. Replaced them with two single rank Samsung B-die sticks from G.Skill and got CL14 3200MHz running without an issue.

I had a quad channel 32GB kit of 4*8GB and they were dual rank as I got them when DDR4 first came out. The new kits are more likely to be single rank but it’s not guaranteed. The G.Skill kits seem to be the best bet for Ryzen at the moment. Also, dual/single rank has nothing to do with the placement of the RAM chips, a single rank module could have chips on both sides and a dual rank could have chips on just one side.

I had 3 memory kits that i returned before one i got atm that runs 3200 no problem.

People say it will get better over time. Well can anyone say ehen that time will come?? NO!!!

Better buy good working with ryzes single sided samsung b than wait weeks months years to run memory at RATED SPEED!!!

G skill Ripjaws V 3200C14 16GB (2 x 8GB) working on CH6 at 3200C16 1.35V SOC 1.1V. Bios version 0083.

Probably needs some fine tuning and maybe a few updates to run at rated C14, we will see.

Most, if not all 8GB sticks are single rank, single sided, check the link I posted earlier.
I don't need to check any links. I own two dual-rank 8GB sticks. They're sitting right next to me in fact. Whatever your link claims, most of them are dual-rank. It's the entire reason there are such problems with memory compatibility with Ryzen, since it specifically doesn't like running dual-rank sticks at higher speeds. That's why you need to buy very specific kits to get single-rank sticks which can run at 3200MHz. I've done plenty of research into this topic over the past month fella, believe me.

Will be looking at a Ryzen rig in... well, a month or 2 so things will have changed again.
So I can keep an eye on price direction though, can a few good... say... £150 range,16GB, 2x8 kits be linked please? Saw the teamgroup ones earlier, but a few lets me bargain hunt :)

Edit: Link above covers G-skill.
Could use some other model numbers to hunt if anyone knows them though :)
