Hi, I have been having a browse through some tuning sites for the VW 1.8T engine and Revo Technik seems to be well regarded. I live in Solihull and so which of the Revo Technik dealers in my area is the best?
Are there any downsides to having the engine tuned up in this way? I don't want flat spots or any sort of strange engine characteristics!

Cheers, PeterT.

Don't know which dealer to use but before you pay for the tuning ask about the 5hrs free trial. Its 5 hrs of engine running time so gives you an idea of what to expect.

Closest one when i got mine done was Midland VW based in Cannock. 40 minute drive and some nice roads to test your software out on on the way back :)

I don’t think the dealer matters much, its only a 15 min job.

As to the remap, it changes the whole feel and character of the engine. Its absolutely fantastic after the remap.

Look at other options before settling on Revo. For example, I could not be happier with my Jabbasport remap. Jabba are near Nottingham, so maybe a bit further away, but I drove there from Kent to have the remap done!

I also have the 1.8t engine (passat sport model 2001).
Are there any drawbacks to this, i.e. do you need anything else changed on the car after the remap, or safe to do it on its own?

Nothing else is required. You can then get more power by doing other mods, but you don't need to.
The only drawback is that I use more petrol now. That isn't specifically because of the remap though. If I drove in the same manenr I did before the remap, I'd expect better fuel consumption, but becuase I have a hell of a lot more power, I tend to floor it more!!!!

The only thing that may need changing at some point is the diverter valve.

I get better fuel efficiency since the remap, I can get as high as 34 mpg compared to 29 in the past however with my style of driving I get around 25 mph.

Granny Stylee™ :p

EDIT: I would appreciate a nice in-depth review from someone who has had a 1.8T 225 remapped. A nice before and after comparison would be good :)

All these replies are most interesting, just been browsing the Jabbasport site. Anyone had a bad experience when their ECU was remapped?
Does it affect engine reliability, or fuel consuption etc?
How easy is it to go back to standard if you want to sell the car etc?

The only probs I know of are related to diverter valves going following the remap. Not sure of an specific probs with Jabba but I know people have had issues with AMD's oneclick.

Revo is easy to switch back, you just need someone with an SPS controller to change the program. You can't do the same with the Jabba remap.

Speak with Jody @ Midland VW he will sort you out with a trial, but you will want the proper version once you've tried it
