Out of the following, which router is best?

Belkin 125Mbps Wireless-G Router (F5D7231UK4) Belkin 125Mbps Wireless-G Router (F5D7231UK4)

Netgear WGR614 54Mbps Wireless Cable DSL Router

Netgear WGT624 108Mbps Wireless Firewall Router Netgear WGT624 108Mbps Wireless Firewall Router

Is it worth paying a little extra and getting?:
Netgear WPN824 Rangemax Wireless Router

My last router was a Linksys WRT54G, however I didnt find it very good, because I upgraded the firmware and it stopped being able to retrieve an IP from DHCP.

What firmware - the official Linksys firmware?
An IP for what interface?
What hardware version is your WRT (should be on a label on the bottom)?
Did you try either reinstalling it or installing a different version?
Personally, I'd fix the WRT (if it's possible without too much hassle) over bothering with any of those - if nothing it's cheaper, and the WRTs are overall excellent routers.

If you don't have Belkin 125Mbps or Netgear 108Mbps wireless cards, either of those routers are completely pointless. The benefit to the Rangemax (extended range, shock horror) is considerably reduced if you aren't using Rangemax wireless cards, so you might want to bear that in mind too.

I already took the old router back, and got a full cash refund.

So will none of those other Routers work with a MacBook? Thats the only computer I need to have to connect wirelessly. I've connected it to a Belkin network before.

Yes, it was the official Linksys firmware.
What do you mean, an IP for what interface?

You're paying extra money for a feature you won't be able to use. It'll work, but only at the ordinary 54Mbps any other 802.11g router will do (until/unless Apple unlock the 802.11n that some Apple machines - maybe not your MB - have)

it stopped being able to retrieve an IP from DHCP.

Which interface stopped getting an IP from DHCP? The WAN interface, client machines on the LAN, wireless?
Largely irrelevant if you've returned it, though I'd suggest a WRT54GL as a router. Decent, choice of third-party firmware, wide feature set.

Oh right. I may consider another Linksys router then, but after my previous experience I'm really put off. I looked for third-party firmware, but I didnt want to pay for it, and all the free firmware didnt work on my hardware version. Also, I did get a lot of interference because there are so many Linksys wireless networks in my area.

I'm really interested in the Netgear WPN824 Rangemax Wireless Router.

What experiences have people had with Netgear in the past? Are they good quality, and reliable? Does the connection drop much? Are they better than Belkin's?

Yeah, the WRT54G/WRT54GS v5 is a lemon and a half.

If you were getting interference from other wireless networks, it'll be the same whatever brand of router you use.

The Netgear should be reasonable (though they've been guilty of the odd dud before like any other brand), but

If the only thing you're ever going to connect is the MB, there ain't a great deal of point.

In that case, which router would you reccomend, other than Linksys?
