I've finally talked the Boss-lady into letting me get a Sat-Nav for the car!... After getting lost BIG-TIME over the weekend visiting friends (Damn AA/Multimap directions!!! )...

I've had a look at various on-line stores and I'm now a bit confudged!..

The Boss has said I'm allowd to spend no more than £250 (+P&P) and I don't realy want one of those PDA ones I want a Stand-alone...

I've got it down to 3...

Navman Icn520 - UK/Ireland - £220
Garmin Streetpilot C320 - UK/Ireland/Europe - £250
Sony NVU50G - UK/Ireland - £250

Now I'm quite drawn to the Garmin as it (from what I've read) has Full detail UK/Europ Maps on the DVD included!!!... when the Sony and Navman have Basemap/Major roads of Europe only, but Full maps available!...

We only got to France (etc...) maby once a year (and thats to Disney etc...) so my questions are:

1) is the Garmin a good sat-nav?
2) is it worth the extra £30 over the Navman?
3) will the Navman/Sony get me to Disney without spending extra money?
4) would the tom Tom ONE be better at £230-250 (can't streach to a Go 300/500)?

What would you recomend???....

Thanks
Sim :)

Yeah the TomToms are good, i think the TomTom one has a better processor than the TomTom 300, my dads after one, and i suggested the TomTom300, but if the one has the better processor then may as well go for that one, as its cheaper to. :D

Dun it!...

I was trawling VERY deeply in google and some price comparison sites and found a Tom Tom GO500 Brand Spanking New for......

Wait for it!....

£275 with Free postage!...
(Shop named after a Large River in South America!! - Sorry if I'm not allowed to say that!!.)

Thats £4quid cheaper than the cheapest GO300 anywhere (except Ebay and I'm not gonna get one from there!!)...

Expected delivery 26th - 28th April...

I'm quite chuffed as its RRP on Tom Tom's website is £469  , I know the 510/710/910 are due out soon, with a few extra goodies, but the 500 will do me till I can afford a car with one built in!... :D

the reason the TT500 is cheap is that it is being discontnued any day now to be repaced by the 510

oops just noticed you knew that , the RRP's on the TT units are daft they never cost anything like , the 510 will be around £330 so it may be worth hanging on ( I am )

£275 was a streach... I'll be quite happy with my 500... just need the Speed Camera database and possibly the Handsfree Mic (unless the Mic on the unit is ok!) and I'll be flying!... Well Driving Safly and efficiantly! :D

If you go to the site I mentioned earlier, there's a TomTom sub forum. You can get the speed camera database there (it's free) and also lots of other info that'll come in handy.

I managed to sort out tomtom mobile 5 on my mobile phone for under 100 quid. Great Britain map with post code support and all the other malarky such as speed camara database etc... Its surprisingly accurate as hell!

have you just seen the TT300's at £189 for sale at this very emporium ?

Makes it the same price as the Cheapest Tom Tom ONE I've seen!...

I wanted the Bluetooth Handsfree though!... I'm still happy...

I use tomtom navigator 5 on my XDA2s since the porsche sat nav completly missed a small town called weymouth one time . . . . . sent me round in circles, the tomtom sat nav works a lot better, although in the centre of london it did send me round and round in circles by oxford street once for like 30 mins last summer . . . . . . . .
