Which sata disk to get

I am wanting to get a 250Gb hard disk and am wandering which is the best brand to buy? im looking for silence and reliability and am hoping for 16MB cache if possible

Samsung or hitachi imo are the quiestest and most reliable.

I agree, the Samsungs are a little slower than the Hitachi but are even more quiet.

I have just ordered two 250Gb Hitachi T7K250 drives but can't tell you how they are yet as I haven't got them yet.

Of course the Seagates come with a long warrenty period...

So they should be reliable too.

samsungs are quiet, but i received a faulty vibrating one.

maxtors are dodgy - 2 of my friends drives died within a year

i have a seagate and its been perfect. its not as quiet as the samsung when seeking but i tend to prefer being able to hear what my HDD is doing. gives me a heads up if something is going on that i dont want to be happening etc.

ive read that weston digital arent great reliablilty but really cant comment.

ive read that the hitachis are good, but again, cant comment as i have no first hand experience.

if i was to buy another drive, it would be a seagate.

I have a Sata-II 250GB Samsung SpinPoint 2504C drive.
I`m very impressed, drive is really quiet and faster comparing with my previous Hitachi Deskstar 7TK250 160 GB.

Out of interest, was your Sammy a 2504C?
I've just installed one in my system and I get a dodgy intermittent vibrating sound a every couple of seconds from my system. Is this a common fault with them? I'm going to have to get mine replaced, but if it's a common fault I may just go with another brand.

Same here. Should arrive thursday.
According to the storage review reliability survey this drive is the most reliable by far out of all the 250gb sata drives, and most reviews seem to agree its the fastest.
