Which Scart/Acces etc

Well I emailed one recommended installer over a week ago but no reply.

Called another one this Monday who said he would call me back on Tuesday but no call.

Must be busy or don't want the job :(

Looks like it might be back to an install in the loft by myself.

Update;

Got an outside aerial fitted by one of the guys recommended.

There is an obvious improvement over what I had but maybe not as big as I had hoped.

Can't help feeling a little disappointed with the picture quality at times.
Now I don't know if that is down to the TV or me expecting too much.

I seem to be doing far too much tweaking trying to find a happy setup especialy when sports is on......picture just seems all mushy if you know what I mean.

Anyway as I have had an outside aerial fitted and use one of the better scarts (QED) I guess I got as good as I am going to get unless anyone can advise a otherwise ;) .....

Appreciate all the advise received earlier in the thread thanks.......most helpful and informative ;)

sorry to highjack this thread but there seems to be some exellent knowledge floating around here.

recently bought a panny LX52 lcd screen. loving it but my signal strenght is terrible.

im going to upgrade the piece of rubish currently on the roof with a decent setup. just after some advice so as i dont waste any cash

I live in the warrington area (cheshire ) so which arial can anyone reccomend ?

at present the cabling is channel through the wall cavity. im guessing there is no way to replace this, so i think ill need to find some ladders and get the drill out :p

The TV you quoted in your first post has a Freeview tuner built it, so assuming the picture doesn't break up or pixellate (due to poor aerial signal) then your problem is no longer the aerial.

I think you are experiencing the what I call the "LCD effect".

These screens are marketed as being fantastic, but in reality the picture quality is nowhere near as good as a standard CRT. I see so many and with the exception of a few they are mostly awful.

Then you have to factor in the compression ratio of the Freeview signal compared to analogue and the conclusion is probably that it's as good as it's going to get with your current setup and current compression ratios.

Fire that baby up with a HDMI signal though and I bet it comes alive.....

Apologies.............the TV is the one without built in Freeview Tosh 32WL 56P.
The Freeview box is a Sony VTX D800U.

Makes sense to me what you say carpmaster about the compression etc.

Some stations do look quite good and dropping the contrast down seems to work.

You'll probably be on Winter Hill there and if so a group C/D aerial would be the pro choice, but for simplicity I reckon you should just get something like a Wolsey QR18 (Group W - Wideband).

You should replace the cabling definately. Mostly you can't pull new cable though on the old cables as they will be plastered in. Just run some decent cable externally (WF100 / QF100 / PF100 etc) and it will be spot on.

will this be OK, im assuming its OK to link this as iv never seen a single TV arial on OCUK

oh and yes winter hill is the nearest one

Yes that's the one I was recommending. They only sell wideband on there so no need to worry about if it's the correct group.

Just make sure you don't cut corners on the fixings / mast etc.

the same company do a fixing kit including decent brackets, mast and even 20m of the cable you mentioned. will just get it with one of them.

might just mount it in the loft for now. moving in a few months and I dont want to have to get up on the roof to get the bugger down.

Sorry I have some more questions........

I have a QED AV2110 that goes from Freeview box to TV.

I am now looking into the possibilty of using a AV41 as the Freeview box has a seperate Audio output........can I take a lead from there into my TV?

If I can I will use the AV2110 for my DVD..........also advice as to which audio cable needed.
