"Do you Yahoo?"
"Where do you want to go today?"

Those were the questions of the late 1990s. Yahoo was the biggest back then, although no clear cut winner as AltaVista, Infoseek, AOL, Excite, Lycos, HotBot, Ask Jeeves, Dogpile (and so on) were all popular choices.

Maybe also say when you first got online, just for kicks :-)

For me, 1998 (home) and 1999 (uni, with my first PC). I was an Infoseek kid, liked the fact that you could drill down your results. For images though, I preferred Google's image search over other engines. Infoseek eventually got bought out and ceased, and I finally moved to Google for general web queries.

Any AOLers still kicking about?

Altavista and Webcrawler. Back in the days when you actually had to know how to search for stuff. Took hours to find a nip slip.

Demon internet with a POP run out of some guys attic I think, Netscape, Altavista.

I did have a bout with AOL, used to do the massmail warez, steal passwords with fake phishing "proggies". IM bomb people with AOHell, ascii scrolling, secret keywords. It was great.

If I recall correctly I used Hotbot and Webcrawler then moved to alta vista then yahoo. Maybe that order is wrong although I remember using these I can't for the life of me remember moving to using Google!

yahoo and then altavista.

i remember this new fangled "google" and remember taking the mickey out of kids that started using it. wonder whatever happened to that site.....

Yep I also remember hearing about/seeing Google and scoffing. I also remember thinking YouTube was just rubbish and thought it'd be dead within a couple of years.
