I have been using Google for years now but today I have read that Google favours it's own results and leaves others out or pushes them back a few pages.

Should I be varying my search engines and is there another one actually better than Google.

Should I look at Bing - until today I thought it was a trojan type search engine but it seems to have taken off in USA as it's Microsofts.

Man, I remember the days when the internet was new and we had to use things like "Altavista" and "Webcrawler".

In those days, you needed to know how to search for things because the algorithms that existed were rubbish compared to today's mind reading stuff. Spent hours and hours looking for a nipple and finally we'd find one, get all excited at watching it form on our 15" CRTs pixel by pixel as the model sang it's little alien soundtrack song thingy.

Then someone would call the house phone.

When I read "favours it's own services" I take that as showing Google maps at the top of the page when searching "maps" or gmail when searching "email" so don't have anything wrong with what they are doing. Why shouldn't a company be able to advertise their own products?

So far I've found Google to have the most useful results list. Bing and Duckduckgo (which would be my preferred option) just don't provide the search results Google does.

Always google. Couldn't give a **** that they push their own shopping links etc. it's actually useful rather than a hindrance.

Google. I remember years ago a colleague at work telling me about this new search engine called Google that was going to take on the mighty Altavista so I just had to try it and I've never used anything else since.

Google. But increasingly I'm having to get past the first few pages of shopping links. So I'm thinking of changing.

I have found that Google gives the best results. Interestingly though, Bing often gives up very different results - and often results Google doesn't show at all.

If looking for something unusual, I sometimes use both.
