Perhaps this could also be in the GFX section.. But what settings do you normally opt for when playing your PC games?

Example, I always have VSYNC on (LCD) and then change whenever possible the max_fps to 59.9 to take away any mouse lag.

I cannot play without VSYNC on as it just looks horrible. the tearing is too yuck and just gives the game a jerky feel.

Not decided on triple buffer just yet. But the 59.9 made a huge difference on Call of Duty 4 and WaW.

Now I'm on a 5770 I always try to go for 4xAA and x16 AF, as i'm sure you all do.. But VSYNC on or off seems to have supporters in both camps. I personally struggle to see why anyone would put up with the tearing using mouse lag as an excuse.

Whatever is highest and runs smoother normally.

Unless it's an online FPS, in which case texture settings normally get put down to the minimum.

If playing a competitive shooter, usually everything on low. 1680 x 1050. 250 fps cap. Or 125 if can't make that.

The highest with my 5870, but with my old 4870, i would go just below the highest. Vsync i keep off.

1920x1200 and max everything with 4xFSAA and 16xAF mainly due to it being relatively fps-hit free on my GTX260 (as in fps stays 60+ in all the games I play), no vsync in non driving games.

I don't do low res textures or medium, even GTA4 had all texture settings on highest - view distance was lower due to VPU memory but textures remain max!

1920x1200, everything up high unless it's a silly game, for example red faction guerilla runs a lot smoother with shadows turned off, risen looks a whole lot better with depth of field turned off.
Vsync off, can't stand mouse lag. If you don't notice mouse lag with vsync on at 60hz then good for you but I just can't cope with it in any game. It's like being drunk, your brain is too far ahead of your movements.
x16 AF, I don't use AA, lowers framerate and I actually prefer the sharper look of the image without it. I take performance over eye candy any day.
It's all down the personal preference, that's mine so no arguing :D

1360x768, whatever settings I can run it at. Always have vsync on, rarely use AA as I can't tell the difference that much. Always have anisotropic filtering with at least 8x.

I go with whatever i can max out with my 4870, im only on a 19" monitor as my left eye cant focus, so usually i can max everything and get fine framerates. Vsync usually off as i dont get tearing.

Another thing i don't understand is why anyone plays games outside of the native res of their LCD ? It looks so pap.. If you want better FPS then lower your settings, not your res.

Honestly with setting your maxfps to 59.9 and vsync on, mouse lag is non-existent. To the non-believers, try it.

^ That depends on what screen you have.

Some LCD screens will display non native resolutions just fine whilst others will go all jaggy and crap.

My screen looks great at any 16:10 resolution or even 16:9 if I enable 1:1 aspect ratio so get the letterbox top and bottom, it only doesn't look great on resolutions below 1280x1024.

Don't tell me you're one of these headcases that has everything looking like crap just to get a scoreboard advantage?

1920x1200 and the max detail my rig will churn out at a solid 60fps. 2x AA and 16x AF I cant stand jaggys. :P

Agreed with Gerard I've never understood why people turn everything to low just to gain a slight scoreboard advantage, even when I played competitively I refused to do it and all my clan friends would moan but spils you cant see people in the grass, so what ill hear them when they move or fire. The grass looks lovely I like to see it.

What's the point in playing a game when it looks like total crap, I'd rather loose that 1-3% competitive edge and have the game looking beautiful giving you the full sense of immersion. Than having the game looking like complete **** but I get a few etc frags.

Unless you have a really crappy rig then I can fully understand that.. If not you may as well buy a mega drive and play Altered beast.

vsync is absolutly horrific tbh.

mouse reacts so much differently

Depends on the game really for both visual impact and mouse 'feel'.

And such as that I set my settings to what I want depending on the game, though native res is pretty much a must unless for some reason I'm on my laptop and using an external screen, though thats once in a blue moon.
