I have fond memories of playing 1 and 2 on the Amiga as a kid, many years ago  Figured I'd dip my toes in again but knowing what a shock nostalgia can be I'm avoiding grabbing 1 and 2.

There look to have been a load released including a remastered 3D version of 2.... Any specific ones to recommend / avoid?

Edit - The ANNO games looks pretty good too?

I've played them all, starting with the very first one way back when, but I find that Anno 1404 beats them all hands down.

Think I might take the plunge with that then cheers. Is there much of a learning curve, found myself playing civilisation on the Xbox with no idea what I was doing! Been out of the game for a while now!

No, it's a very soft learning curve. The whole campaign is practically a tutorial to prepare you for the free-play mode. And it's great fun to boot.
But at no time do you actually feel that this is just a tutorial. I wish every game would do it this way.

Is 3 the first one where they went without pre-defined movement paths?

If so I really liked that one, was a great game.

Ooh, didn't realise that 10th anniversary edition existed. Used to love Settlers 2 back in the day, had some GoG credit and with it being on offer figured I'd grab it. :)

I bought 7 ages ago in a Steam sale. Played it a little, but like most Steam sale games, I don't play them more than a few hours.

I remember trying Settlers 3 I think on a demo disc back in 1998 or 99 roughly.

I've read good things about Anno 1404. Only tried 2070 (Steam sale again) and I quite enjoyed that. The latest Anno looks shiny but I've heard it's not so good and more dumbed down.

i do think Anno 1404 is the best. Fun scenarios and a good campaign mode. Well worth it. The only settlers i played was a demo back in the 90's. 2 i think it was. loved it, but was more into C&C and AOE at the time. it felt too slow
