Which short term rolling contract?

Hi guys,

Vodafone have annoyed me with this ridiculous £5 charge for using more than 500mb of data. So I wrote them a strongly worded letter, and they wrote back with my PAC code and confirmation I could terminate my agreement with no charge and retain my HTC Desire.

Now, I need somewhere to go. Not sure whether I want a new phone or not so I fancy sitting out for a while on a rolling day type thing.

I'd like 1Gb a month of data, unlimited (or a large amount) of text messages and between 300 and 600 minutes. I also want excellent 3G Coverage because I enjoy passing the time on the internet when on long train journeys, or at motorway services, etc.

I'm currently thinking of GiffGaff, but the idea of T-Mobile and being able to use the Orange signal as well has got me thinking. Does this also apply to the 3G Signal?

Giffgiff offer 300 minutes and unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £15 a month.

What shall I do guys?

Wow, they've done you a serious favour there, letting you keep the phone after less than the contract time! :) .

The Orange/T-mobile thing is 2G only at the moment, but apparently will be 3G eventually.

Check that "unlimited internet" is in fact unlimited... most will have a FUP.

Nope, they are doing what they are legally required to do :)

Just curious Fox but could you email me on my trust so I can see how you worded the letter. Reason being my Vodafone deal will be effected by this as well for my HD2, havent went over that limit at any point but would be interesting to see if I can get out too :)

As for the Sim only deals with T-Mobile you're looking at a 1GB allowance under their Fair Usage policy so that ticks that box at least.

The problem is at £15 they only offer 300 texts and booster would have to go to internet!

£20 aint much better if you text a lot, sitting at 500 texts. The orange network i did find great for 3G when I was with them, very quick indeed.

im the same, my o2 contract has ran out...i was thinking of simplicity, but i want around 600 mins, unlimited txts, unlimited o2 to o2 calls and 500 mb data? will the £15 a month be sufficient for my needs?

Currently only 2G roaming is supported. 3G is due but there's not date yet.

Fox, Tesco are doing some good SIM only packages but I don't know what the coverage is like in your area.

They use O2's network which I'm on and I don't have any problems where I'm based/travel to.

Here's a £10 p/m rolling contract deal here, but they do a £15 for 250 more minutes. (500 vs 750).

Thats a good deal - but then I read the Unlimited Data isnt unlimited, it's 500mb unless you have an iPhone?

Not looked into the specifics of it (bit naive of me), so just took a quick look at their T&Cs:

4. Inclusive Credit and Data Charges
4.1 Inclusive Credit can be used on GPRS and 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone whilst you are in the UK.
4.2 All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
(a) in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
(b) to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (VOIP), P2P or file sharing; or
(c) in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other Tesco Mobile or Telefonica O2 UK customers.
4.3 Once you have used all your Inclusive Credit, any data use which would previously have been included will be charged at the current rate Click here for details.
4.4 If we reasonably suspect you are not acting in accordance with this paragraph, we reserve the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.
4.5 To access data services your mobile device must be data compatible and enabled. Access to data services is subject to network coverage.

So just a fair usage policy that is a bit vague as they determine what fair usage is.

3 do a £15 sim only contract with 300 minutes, 3000 texts, 2000 3 to 3 minutes and 1GB of data per month, and in my oppinion have the best overall 3G coverage. I guess it depends what part of the country your in though.

I work out in the sticks and 3 is the only network with a 3g signal, all the others are on gsm out here meaning crap data speeds.

Those are some really good deals there, they're better than o2 themselves.

I may be wrong here but when they state 'fair usage policy' doesn't that normally mean that you don't get an instant charge for going over, but if you do it persistently they then charge you. So it depends on your usage and if you regularly exceed 500mb.

Surely the Tesco sim only is the best deal?

1 month rolling - £10 / month

500 xnet minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited internet (500mb fair usage)

I've just signed up myself..

There is no such thing as "unlimited". Unlimited texts aren't unlimited and neither is unlimited internet / data.

I know this. But as I use a gig a month it makes sense to sick a plan where unlimited means at least a gig rather than 500mb.

I am leaving Vodafone as unlimited is 500mb which is not suitable.

I'm looking for something similar myself, so far..

The TescoMobile £15 iPhone SIM only rolling contract gives 250mins/Unlimited Texts/1Gb Data.. (And £15 Quidco cashback)

The T-Mobile £15 Sim Only 30 day rolling contract gives 350min/300texts/1Gb Data allowance using the unlimited internet booster (And £20 Quidco cashback)

On the subject of Giff-Gaff and data, it's great now, but 1st december and it's no-more..
You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the 1st of December 2010. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB). But all our goodybags that include unlimited Internet will continue including unlimited Internet after the 1st of December.

I'd say the main thing is 'coverage'.. what are people's thoughts on o2/TMobile/Orange?

Not true, if you buy a package that gives unlimited data (£10 is the cheapest) then you will continue with the same usage as you get today.

No, there won't be any goodybags with unlimited data after Dec 1st, But any monthly Goodybag bought before 1st december with unlimited data will still be valid for that month, once it runs out, you can't renew it, you have to buy a new goodybag which won't have unlimited data. so I guess 30th December and it's over?

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of Giff-Gaff, but the question was asked on the forum, and it seems to be as I understand it. :)
