Which should I buy?

GTA 5, much more for you money and in terms of re-playability. Certainly if you are a fan of multiplayer as well.

I have both and that would be my choice but it does depend on what you prefer.

I'd say Witcher 3 was more content for your money. I put 76 hours into 1 play through and I didn't do anywhere near all the content. Easily 150 hours of content, with multiple endings and story choices for replay value. You can also get a Witcher 3 key for about £15, if you don't mind not having it on Steam.

GTA V on the other hand has a decent single player, but I think you would struggle to play 150 hours of it. The story is the same every time (apart from 1 or 2 heists?) so there is no need to play it again. Yes roaming around is fun for a few hours, but there's not that much to it apart from the story. I'm not really a fan of online games so cannot speak for GTA Online.

It depends what type of game you want really. Both are fun, but they are very different games.

Yes I agree with you but for me Witcher 3 got rather boring anyway at points as it doesn't give you as much freedom as I would have hoped for. If the OP is more interested in multiplayer games then GTA 5 is easily the better option. I have played GTA 5 for over 1000 hours and bought the game on three different platforms.

So yes as I said it is entirely down to your preference :)

Witcher 3 without a doubt, GTA is a good game but meh same old same old really. Unless you prefer MP but then if that is the case you should not compare the two games, for SP it is W3 all the way to the bank.

Which one should I buy Gta 5 or witcher 3. Ive never played any of the series except gta back on the ps one :p

Both are great.

But Witcher 3 is exceptionally great in that nothing has come close to what CDPR have achieved with this game ever before.

Away from the games themselves, Witcher 3 is totally DRM free if you choose to go that route (I did), whilst GTA V comes with nasty Always On DRM around it's neck (which is why I chose to download the 'free version' instead of buying it).

I wouldn't say witcher 3 is something unique, I've only played a bit of it but it's very similar to Skyrim, its similarly a bit rough around the edges like Skyrim was.

GTAV on the other hand really feels like a milestone in gaming.

I don't really see the year of release as the defining feature of the game, the detail, the writing and the variety in GTA has never been matched since. Now they've made it look like it deserved to as well is just icing on the cake.

Don't get me wrong W3 is a good game, but I can't say it is a stand out game like GTA V.

I feel the opposite. GTA V was just another GTA, it didn't add much new. Yes it was good, but it was a linear story. Witcher 3 has multiple endings, multiple branches, there is actual choice. On top of countless other side quests that all have their own story.

Witcher 3 was one of the best games made in years. Yes it's a bit rough around the edges but it's an absolutely genre changing game. Future RPG games will be graded X out of Witcher 3.

What does W3 do that Skyrim doesn't? Maybe I haven't got far enough into it, but it's not wow'd me as much as GTA did.

Skyrim is just a massive borefest, 80% of people will agree modding Skyrim is more fun then actually playing it. People will spend hours on Skyrim just making it look better they never actually play it.

It is nothing like Skyrim m8.

Skyrim was a stunning, vast but empty landscape, punctuated by a bazillion generic dungeons which was where all the go there, kill this, fetch that quests took place. Gameplay was utter garbage. Characters were all gay. Storytelling was banal and as bland as it gets, although going by what passes for popular entertainment in the mainstream, I can easily imagine lots of people thinking the Skyrim narrative was awesome.

Witcher 3 is a vast, stunning, and vibrant landscape full of life, surprises, and things to do. Gameplay is pretty decent, characters are interesting, captivating, and even attractive. Storytelling is top drawer, borrowing much from genuine Slavic/Germanic/Celtic folklore and combining this with a modern form of mature and sophisticated video game narrative. Unlike Skyrim, but very much like Game Of Thrones, The Witcher 3 really is awesome.

I am not saying that Witcher 3 is or will be the video game that I have enjoyed the most, but in terms of what it has accomplished, nothing else comes even close to it. Anyone must surely be able to see that.

That is such a poor comparison. What has Witcher 3 done that is so great? If the OP prefers multiplayer games then there isn't even an argument.

Just seen your post above but I still think that is down to personal opinion.

It always will be...... What we think W3 has done that is so amazing does not mean you will but also means others will.

If the OP prefers MP games then this thread is pointless anyway LOL.

Not necessarily.

What other free roaming RPG offers a storytelling experience of the same high quality as Witcher 3 does?

This is what is so astounding about the Witcher 3. You can just literally ride off on Plötze (Roach), totally ignoring the main quest, and Game of Thrones grade 'adventures n stories' will occur. And then when you actually get around to following the main quests, things just get even better. Witcher 3 feels pretty close to being an interactive Game of Thrones, where no matter where you go, some form of high grade narrative will be there to meet you. There has been literally nothing quite like this in the history of video gaming. Witcher 3 is a first in that respect and whether you prefer GTA V, or if RPGs aren't really your cup of tea, there can't be any arguments about that. My favourite RPG of all time remains Gothic II and I would even say that I was more immersed in Gothic III (with community patch) than I am in Witcher 3, but there is no denying that Witcher 3 represents a very significant milestone in video gaming.

With that said, I am only level 9, and I am reading lots of complaints from people at level 20+, who are complaining about severe balancing issues.....so perhaps it is the case that CDPR have ploughed all their resources into ensuring the start of the game (the part that will generate all the post-launch hype) is phenomally rich in well balanced content, at the expense of later phases of the game being not very well balanced or indeed, a bit threadbare on content. Time will tell.
