Wanting to put Linux on an old machine i have, which is barely running XP.

Its used for playing movies through it mostly, school work etc.

Its the following specs:

P2 350MHz (afaik)
512mb RAM
40GB HDD
Onboard GFX

Any Linux you'd recommend for this?

I use Xubuntu on a 550 Mhz P3 machine with 398 MiB RAM and a GeForce 2. It's darn slow. Arch is better optimized and should be a tish faster than DSL but DSL is easier for newbs. I'd start off with DSL and see how you like it. If it doesn't work out try Arch.

Ah right..XP Pro seems okay with it, just a bit of a delay opening things really, so would it be a bit faster or similar?

If so, I propose to you that it's faster than 350 MHz. When I ran XP on a 400 MHz P2, the second fastest one you could get, it was pretty much unusably slow.

With a lightweight Linux it should be faster, but don't expect it to make a Top Fuel car out of your Yugo.

Yeah i understand.

Just wanting something new & slightly less delay, for example opening Media Player, takes a few seconds to load the video, stutters till menu is gone.
