As for a good episode, how about "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer"? The one where he eats the Merciless Peppers of Quetzlzacatenango and goes on mind-bending trip. Plus, it features the late, great Man In Black, Johnny Cash.
 
i can't stand to watch the first series', where the colour is really dull and their voices are all different. But any episode is a classic after that :P
 
My all time favourite episodes are "Radio Bart" and "Lisa's Pony" - both from season 3.

There are loads of other greats, but those are the two i immediately think of as great episodes.

Yep, I can't stand the first season either. It's still funny but I just can't watch it.

an amazing episode i think throughout seasons 6, 7 and 8 there is not a bad episode
 
I don't know why people don't like the later series of the simpsons. They're not as full as "cowabunga dude!" and "don't have a cow man!", but they're a bit more sitcom and less cartoon comedy.
 
I love them one when they go to africa, and end up in that monkey sanctuary. Homer says the best line ever

first of bart only said those lines in the 1st and 2nd season. and also no one likes the new ones as much as they don't have the great writters or directors they used to have and the replacements are just trying to mimic the older style and well failing at it, sure they have some good jokes but none of the classic lines/jokes or stories as the older ones.

It's amazing how the programme changes in those first two seasons.

The "new" episodes have barely raised a smile from me, and I think Homer's become so stupid that I've actually begun disliking him. A lot of it feels forced, and the animation is too 'neat', for want of a better word, and lacks the charm of the earlier seasons.

I love the episode where Homer is worried about Bart turning gay, or something like that, so he desperately tries to do manly things.

Homer: Uh... I... no.

The newer stuff is too 'fashionable' for want of a better word. The old stuff is funny no matter how old it is, the new stuff is too er, pop-culturey.
