Hi,

A dispatch company require a quotation system from and to areas they drop off and pick up..

They have all the areas and the prices...

So for example:

a) from : leicester sq
b) to: paddington

= quote....

1. what software could I use to code this?
2. would it be difficult to code?
3. how long do you think it would take a complete newb, like yours truely...

Any help and advice would be most appreciated

Many thanks

Cheers!!

that all depends. on what you need.

The size, weight of a parcel will not be hard. However you need to purchase the address database of Royal mail. But it will be hard to program in the places and the time and distance for the journey.

You can program in what ever language you want. VB.net is very easy to pick up if you have no other language experience.

There must also be an external; company that will allow you to pass on postcodes and they return distance and time.

But it will be hard to program.

purchase the address database of Royal mail

i didnt even realise they sold it....I wonder if their address database tells me the mileage between 2 places...a from b like...if yes then its a simple excel calculation which would enable me to quote all day everyday and would be so easy :)

Im not really concerned with weight and sizes of parcels , just mileage involved from A place TO another :)

thanks for your help mate really appreciate that :)

yep they sell it. what it is I'm not sure. But it'll be almost imposable for you to code something to work out the mileage so unless the RM database comes with somesort of software are comes with a pre defined look up query. Then you'll have to use a 3rd partie website. No idea how much that would cost.
