which soundbar

But that is nearly 10months out of date now..

and?

do you think they release new soundbars every month?

it's like once every 2 years for a soundbar release from the likes of yamaha. even then changes are little like updates in HDMI, etc.

speaker tech hasn't changed very much in over 50+ years.

even sonos have only made a new soundbar after like 5 years.

I've shortlisted 2, what should I get, it will be used for general tv, films, youtube and listening to music, here's the list
Samsung HWMS750 £439.00
Yamaha YSP2700 £649

Whereabouts in the Room are you putting the soundbar? Is it in the corner or along a wall? The technology used in the Yamaha depends a lot on bouncing sounds of the walls, and works better in certain situations. The Samsung is more forgiving.

Just about to pull the trigger on the new Samsung HW-N950, pricey but i am losing my floorstanders for this so want something special, double the budget you have though.

The only thing that puts me off of the HW-N950 is there is no auto calibration, how on earth does it work out your room dimension, ceiling height etc. (which surely must be fundamental for ATMOS) without a good audio calibration system?

The major drawback with most soundbars is they expect a very "specific" room size/shape, something I just can't do.

it will be going in the following cabinet on top the tv stand at an angle

Then I would suggest getting the Samsung. If the bass is lacking or the surround sound is lacking you can upgrade it with the SWA-700 subwoofer and SWA-9000S rear speakers. Both are wireless, so they are simple to install. And I confess , I like the sound of the Samsung Sound bars over the Yamaha ones, having tested quite a few in my own home when I was buying last year.

But, if you liked the sound of the Yamaha 2500 you had, the 2700 is a step up from that, so at least you know you will like the sound, so that might be the best option for you personally. If thought the 2500 wasn't great, then a change might be in order.

Agreed. I had the Yamaha YSP-1600 for a short time, and aside from the audio skipping issue it seemed to have with my TV, it sounded fairly crap in my living room. Even with it set as having one wall (on the left) closer than the other and a bit of extra fiddling, it rarely sounded good. Whilst testing it at the Richer Sounds store in their demo room to try to reproduce the skipping issue, it sounded great.

I returned that one and went with the Samsung HM-MS650 bundled with the wireless rear speakers, for me it's the much better set-up. Bass is slightly lacking compared to the Yamaha, if I didn't live in a flat I'd look into picking the wireless sub up at some point but it's fine without.
