Which SSD?

Hi guys,

Thinking of adding an SSD to my system.

My Asus P8Z68 has Intel® Smart Response Technology, meaning I can use an SSD as a huge cache onto which it'll automatically place my most used applications, OS, etc. The theory, and the benchmarks, seem to suggest it offers almost the performance of an SSD but with the flexibility of a conventional HDD.

So, I'm torn.

Do I either..

a) Use Smart Response
b) Have a seperate standalone SSD which I then must faff about with choosing which applications I wish to benefit from SSD

And once this decision is made - which SSD? Are there benefits to the larger capacities if I'm going to use Smart Response?

Thanks!

i dont consider ssd caching any where are effective as actually using the ssd as its own drive

personally i leave small often-used apps on the ssd (chrome, vlc, avast)

and have the big never used ones on the hdd (photoshop, autocad, etc)

:)

Fox - Have a google for the samsung 830. Reviews look very promising! The reads and write speeds aren't dependant on data type either.

Smart Response is only ever as good as the predictions it makes regarding your most frequently used files and apps. I don't really see the merit in them as it's simply the equivalent of putting your most used programs on an SSD yourself.

As for which SSD:

Sandforce for speed
Intel for reliability
Crucial M4 for something in between.
