Which SUV for approx £30k

Spoke to a dealership about an X3 I quite like, they’ve said it had an inclusive service plan until November next year - any servicing it needs is apparently fully included until then. Never heard about that before.

I had service inclusive on an AUC 330d I once brought. It's nice they allow it to be transferred over to the new owner - saves a good few £ as it includes all maintenance items inc. brake fluid - just excludes tyres.

For me though if there was a better car for the same money, I'd take that instead over the service plan as you could beat up the dealers for a service plan anyway especially if financing through them.

Thanks for this. I'm looking at cash purchase so seems to be little in the way of wiggle room on price.

How can you tell it is iDrive 7 and is that apple car play compatible or does it need a modification? Is this iD7?
No that’s not iDrive 7.

You can tell with three things (on these anyway):
- the dials. iDrive 7 is a fully digital dash with the speedo and rev counter that isn’t round, and moves in the opposite direction. Like this.
- the steering wheel. The design is newer, with flat buttons. Like this.
- The main screen user interface is a fair bit different. Like this.

On the X3 M40i, the earliest I’ve seen iDrive 7 on a car is an October 2019 production date. So the car you’ve linked to is too old for it.

You can still get CarPlay with the previous version of iDrive. Believe it needs to have wifi prep so you have the antenna.

Nice one. Thanks :)
Started the hunt for a similar car myself, although not due until end of year.

in the similar boat.

Current leased Kodiaq is going back in 6 months time. It's a great car but bloody hell, the monthly diesel is ridiculous. the car manages only 30MPG as we do mostly nursery/school runs with weekend trip or shopping runs.

Got an EV on order but thats probably another 6-9month away. However with the stupid electricity prices, I am tempted to get a PHEV so i can switch to those EV tariff with a low night rate and store electricity in batteries to offset my electricity cost.

But more fundamentally, with an EV it is gonna be painful to justify the usage based on the electricity cost even tho the Truss has capped it for 2 years @ 34-40p/kwh.

the EV i ordered is £44k but these used PHEV liek the XC60 T8 is ridiculously priced. makes me think that maybe I should just wait for the EV to arrive and cross the bridge then

That's what I would do. We have an ID3 and a Sorento PHEV. We use Octopus Go to charge the cars overnight as required. 28 Kw for the ID3 means the wife's car is always sitting at 80% and the Sorento does 30 miles on EV only so is ideal for the school runs and shopping runs, while allowing easy journeys further afdiled (as in Scotland, over 300 miles) wiht the 7 seats.

We now nearly always use the ID3 for journeys up to 200 miles or so if we don't need the additional seats. With the Go rate it is waaaaaay cheaper than the Sorento and far cheaper than previous Karoq and Q7.

Presumably these are short trips which is why the fuel economy is so poor. Unless you're doing 15,000 miles a year of these short trips how is it costing enough to justify changing it?

Even with short trips - about 8k a year that’s a big fuel saving. I can’t see diesel prices coming down tho. Might consider a petrol car.

It’s roughly £2100/yr in fuel atm.

Compare that with EV at 3.5miles/kWh and 8p/kWh (EV tariff) that’s £180/year

Within 5years the difference of an EV vs Second hand SUV is parity
