Which tablet?

Woosh!

I'm looking at the bigger picture for usability.
Irrespective of what you can use it with apart from that tablet, price, etc; at the end of the day, a cable, be that adaptor or pure cable: ie; an accessory, is needed to use them.

There's no woosh, I know what you're saying but if you're going to be pedantic about it you need an adaptor and a cable for the galaxy tab, as opposed to just a cable for the Xoom. Sure you may already have the cable to go with the adaptor, but then if you buy a mini-HDMI cable now for the Xoom you already have it next time you buy a device that uses it.

I'm not getting that impression, but ho-hum!

There's nothing pedantic about pointing out that either way something is needed as its not a full size HDMI port.
The pedantic-ness comes from your specifying of "but, but, but".

Look, I've made my point of view and I stand by it, if you don't agree, that's your choice, but I wont be discussing that point any more.

Damn you're stubborn aren't you. Even if it had a fullsize HDMI port something would be needed, an HDMI cable. So you tell me you already have one, so what? If you already had a mini-HDMI - HDMI cable you wouldn't need to buy one either. The point is no matter what cables you might already have the Samsung Galaxy Tab requires a proprietary adaptor, I don't understand how you can't see the difference.
