Apologies for the thread...

I've been using a 19" ViewSonic TFT for the last 4 years at least and would like something bigger. I have no real idea how much bigger, but I don't really want to spend more than £300.

I use my PC for playing Dark Age of Camelot (MMO) and watching movies etc. So it must be as good for gaming as possible given the price.

TIA.

If one of the primary uses is going to be watching movies then I'd suggest an IPS panel, like the Dell U2412M. Not only is it cheaper but it will be much better quality than TN-panels, like the 120Hz panel linked to above.

No reviews :(

It looks nice though. Do Benq have the same replacement policy as Dell if there are any dodgy pixels?

Have you tried searching Google or indeed the forums. There are reviews - I should know, I wrote an 8000 word one. I would agree given your uses that an IPS panel monitor such as the Dell U2412M could be worth looking into. If you are particularly fussy about 'dark details' in films then IPS monitors aren't really the best choice but if you like a balance and a good variety of rich and distinct colours then they could be the ticket. I wouldn't worry too much about the responsiveness aspects for MMO gaming, really they should be pretty good for that. :)

Sorry, I meant OCUK reviews.

I agree with PCM2. Do your homework a bit more, plenty of information here. Dell U2412M seems your best bet, should handle MMO's just fine.

The primary use is going to be playing MMO. Watching movies etc on side. Gaming performance is paramount.
Having gone from a 2ms TN-panel to an S-IPS panel I would never go back, even for 120Hz gaming. There is no disputing that TN-panels have better response times but the image quality just isn't as good. IPS offers the best compromise and still offers response times that are great for gaming, especially for MMOs which simply aren't limited by response time.

Check out the reviews, as most clearly state that IPS monitors are great for gaming.

The OCUK description doesn't state which panel is TN and which is IPS. Which panels do the Dell and Benq use?

The Dell U2412M uses an E-IPS panel - a subtype of IPS (I believe the OCUK product listing does say the Dell is an IPS), the BenQ XL2420T uses a TN panel (as pretty much all currently available 120Hz refresh rate monitors have to use TN panels).

The BenQ is a really good monitor if you are playing a lot of fast-paced gaming (like FPSs) as you want the absolute best motion handling and lowest input lag if you want the best performance in these kind of games.

However, if you are mainly playing MMOs (which are not nearly as reliant on super-fast motion and responsiveness as FPSs) then you really don't need these features to be that amazing (though the Dell still does pretty well in these areas) and the extra image quality, viewing angles and resolution of the 24in Dell make it the better option IMHO.

Here is a review of the Dell.

Here is the excellent review of the BenQ done by our very own PCM2.
