which thermal compound?

Go with IC Diamond 7 - it's about 3c cooler than MX-2/AS5. The paste the Megahalems comes with isn't bad, either. I'd be a bit worried about using paste that's a couple of years old though.

the paste that comes with Prolimatech Megahalem is absolutely top notch . im just after reseating my Prolimatech Megahalem using the supplied paste,my temps have droped 3 deg from as5 . [email protected] prime 95 8 hours temps 58deg..

and when your seating they Megahalem i found east to west was best for dual fans

Didnt want to create a spearate thread...

I have a two years old half tube of Akasa 450 (Thermal conductivity 9.24 W/m.°C) and wonder if its still ok to use and if ARCTIC MX-2 (Thermal Conductivity W/(mK) 5.6) is a better paste. Why cant manufacturers use the same units - I cant convert W/m.°C into W/(mK) :(

EDIT: just found this: "1 W/(m.K) = 1 W/(m.oC) = 0.85984 kcal/(hr.m.oC) = 0.5779 Btu/(ft.hr.oF)" on an engineering website (http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/thermal-conductivity-d_429.html). How could this possibly be true 1 W/(m.K) = 1 W/(m.oC)?
And does this mean that my Akasa450 is better than the expensive MX-4 (Thermal Conductivity W/(mK) 8.5)?

+1 Prolimatech PK-1 is better than AS5 imo.

There isn't really a best compound. There are good and bad ones but not a best one. No one can test the efficiency of a compound as no one could apply them in the exact same way so it would never be a fair test. Just use the most popular filter to find the best compound. I am planning on using Arctic silver mx-3.

I found MX-4 easyer to apply than MX-3 and it seemed to give slightly better results.
Normally use MX-4 on gpu's and PK-1 on cpu's.

This! No point spending money on a thermal compound that might have been good 5 years ago because these days, there are far better stuff than AS5. The Prolimatech PK-1 happens to be one of the best as well.

Yeah, I did a bit more research and it seems that thermal compounds is a bit like something from high end audio where people compare sound signatures of silver and copper and other such snake oils. I think I will use up the rest of my Akasa450 and then buy some MX-4 or something. There really does seem to be nothing between them and even stuff like mayonnaise and toothpaste offering performance that is within 5C of some thermal pastes:D http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/Thermal-Compound-Roundup-September-2011/1377

Tbh as mentioned, if u have got stuff left then just use it, the difference between brands or types is negligible and in the OP's case use what came with the cooler as it is a decent paste.
